The Deal with Francisco Torres

Francisco Torres

A duel-citizenship that may work out in the USA’s favor.

Good.

The 20 year old midfielder was never heard of prior to the CONCACAF Champions Cup, when his club side Pachuca defeated DC United to make it to the finals of the least coveted of the regional finals.

Torres was raised in Longview, Texas, then moved to Pachuca’s youth system, which he progressed through to make his senior debut in the 2006 Clausura. Now he often features for the most successful Mexican side in the last three years.

Word has it that the big guys of the USSF were out to watch Torres in Washington, DC when Pachuca visited for the second leg of its series against DC United. Supposedly there were some talks and mutual interest in playing for the United States in the Beijing Olympics was expressed.

If so, and the USSF is able to lure this young talented player with duel-citizenship in Mexico, it could open the door for many more players in the same situation to play for the United States. And that is a good thing.

P.S. - With this situation as well as the McBride talks shaping up, add in Freddy possibly looking for another new team, and this could be one interesting Olympics.

The question should be whether or not he is any good. I can’t find any info on him. I’m sure he has to be pretty decent or he wouldn’t be featuring for Pachuca at such an age but as I never see their games it is really hard to form an opinion on the guy.
