Bradley Calls 22, Includes Some Surprises…

Bob Bradley has called up 22 players to train ahead of the US MNT’s upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against El Salvador and Trinidad & Tobago. Here’s the full list:
GOALKEEPERS (3): Brad Guzan (Aston Villa: 4/3 SO), Tim Howard (Everton: 8/6 SO), Marcus Hahnemann (Reading: 1/1 SO)
DEFENDERS (7): Carlos Bocanegra (Rennes: 17/2), Danny Califf (FC Midtjylland: 3/0), Jay DeMerit (Watford: 1/0), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus Crew: 15/1), Oguchi Onyewu (Standard de Liege: 13/1), Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock: 8/0), Jonathan Spector (West Ham United: 2/1)
MIDFIELDERS (7): Freddy Adu (AS Monaco: 5/1), DaMarcus Beasley (Glasgow Rangers: 22/6), Michael Bradley (Borussia Mönchengladbach: 7/4), Maurice Edu (Glasgow Rangers: 3/0), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA: 7/0), Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado Rapids: 12/0), José Francisco Torres (Pachuca: 2/0)
FORWARDS (5): Jozy Altidore (Xerez C.D.: 4/1), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo: 13/6), Clint Dempsey (Fulham FC: 13/4), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy: 26/9), Eddie Johnson (Cardiff City: 9/8)
*numbers indicate all-time World Cup Qualifying caps/goals
I guess Bob finally started to feel sorry for both Freddy and Jozy, neither of whom are getting any love at the club level. But the real shocker is Eddie Johnson, yes, the Grown-Ass Man is back with the US MNT after many thought he was gone for good. He’s finally starting to find his way at Cardiff City, so it will be interesting to see if that translates to the national team level, too.
Aside from that, everything else is pretty much as expected. Brian Ching and his nose bleeds are still there and it appears Kenny Cooper has officially fallen completely out of favor with Bob. Now the next question is: who starts?

i hope we see
—————–howard—————
–spector—onyewu—–boca—-pearce-
–dempsey–kljestan—bradley–beas—
————donovan—jozy————
with adu replacing kljestan, beas dropping back to fullback and torres replacing pearce, and johnson replacing jozy (hell, let’s see what he can do)
not gonna lie, it might actually be better to start ching, depending on how match fit jozy is with his shite loan, in which case i would like to see jozy play the last 30

i know that i dont want to see johnson. i dont think he has ever done anything of worth.
i would like to see adu some more. when i saw him play against cuba he looked good, but again that was cuba and they suck. the only way i could see starting him would be in a 4-3-1-2 with adu in the hole. although the formation wouldnt really fit beasly if dempsey was used as the second striker so i think that it would be a mistake. i really wish there was a better way to fit him in as he doesnt really project well as a second striker and we dont have the formation to play with an attacking mid and wide mids.

I think the Cooper non selection might have more to do with he has only played 1 or 2 competitive matches since December. And since he’s not a normal regular he wasn’t selected. This is the first roster I completely agree with every selection. Uh, oh!

With two games in five days against probably the two weakest teams in the hex, this is what I would love to see with the camp that Bradley called in.
At El Salvador:
—Guzan—
-Hejduk-Onyewu-Califf-Boca-
-Dempsey-Torres-Bradley-Beasley-
—Donovan—
—Altidore—
Johnson for Altidore (60)
Defensive subs as necessary
Versus T&T
—Howard—
-Spector-Onyewu-Boca-Pearce-
-Donovan-Kljestan-Bradley-Dempsey-
—Adu—
—Ching—
Altidore for Ching (60)
Edu for Kljestan/Bradley (75)
Defensive sub as necessary
I’m hesitant on the match fitness of Adu, Altidore, Beasley, Edu, or Pearce to go more than a total of 90 minutes in the two games

If EJ gets to play I’ll be totally disappointed. We need 6 points these 2 games. Not someone who is not a team player a lazy bum.
