mun2 speaks

July 28th, 2009 | By: Brooks Peck | 6 Comments »

While NBC Universal is keeping the USA vs. Mexico World Cup Qualifier on the obscure mun2, they have apparently taken notice to the outcry by offering a free preview of the channel on the day of the match.

They’ve been fervently contacting all the sites that took part in the effort to get the game on a more readily available channel, even going so far as to email me at the Dirty Tackle address with a message that began:

“We read your post “the hell is a mun2?” and thank you, in advance, for the opportunity to respond to your concerns…”

Made me laugh.

Anyway, NBC Universal says they have “extensive carriage agreements” for mun2 with Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Cablevision, Comcast, DIRECTV, DISH, AT&T and Verizon, so assuming that means all those carriers will offer the free preview, the game should be readily available for most US viewers.

MUn2 is a good station but not really available for most viewers.

I contacted Comcast today. They have not heard of this free day and thus at this point have no plans to offer it for free.

Sadly, it looks like I’ll be missing the game as well. I’ve got TimeWarner here in North San Diego County, and I just talked with a cust svc rep who had no idea about any possible free preview. I’ll keep my fingers crossed, since I see on the web that other SoCal TW franchises are carrying it…

Go USA.

I called Comcast and they had not heard of any free promotion. I think the operator thought I was making it up.
