Adu To Monaco On Full Season Loan

The long rumored move of Freddy Adu to French Ligue 1 club AS Monaco has finally gone through. The specifics are reported as a one-year, full season loan, including the all important option to buy. So yes, there is a possibility that you have seen Freddy in a Benfica kit for the last time. If you, in fact, managed to catch any of his 413 minutes of action last year at all.
This move comes in the wake of gearing up for the Olympics, so it remains to be seen what type of effect a move to a new club will have on the 20 year old star and his performance at the Olympics. My guess is, like always, he will be out to prove that he deserved to be playing at Benfica in the first place. Kid’s got a constant Costco sized bag of lays on his shoulder like no one else.
The important thing here is that Freddy has a good chance to start for Monaco. Something he could not dream of at Benfica this year, with the recent addition of storied Argentine playmaker Pablo Aimar. While this kind of stings a little from the perspective of Benfica’s original plans for the kid, it is a good recovery move in the sense that he will be getting the most important thing at this point in his career, playing time. Monaco will serve perfectly as a platform for Adu to really launch his career in Europe, thanks to the amount of playing time he should get. Playing time is the bee’s knees for a 20 year old looking to realize his immense potential. Would you like me to stress playing time one more time? I can even just type it once more for effect. Playing time. There. You get the picture.
What do you think of this move for Adu? Bummed to see him leave Benfica, possibly for good? Pumped that he is going to have a good chance to start in French Ligue 1? Think we will see him with a nice rich WAG on a yacht soon? Make yourself heard…

The only thing I hope for is that he can stay with one team or stay in one country for multiple years. I think Benefica strung him along and could potentially have done some real damage to his young psyche. He got little playing time with Benefica even though when he played he proved his worth. I don’t know if he stepped on toes there or what but it seemed like they really could have cared less about him. I hope Freddy is able to bounce back and make his mark and I also hope people let him grow up and stop putting so much pressure on him.
