Beasley Suffers Injury Blow, Adu’s Club Ousted from CL
A rough midweek for soccer Americana in the Champions League was capped with what was being dreaded since Bob Bradley’s fixture at left wing. fell to the pitch awkwardly two days ago.
Tuesday, American winger DaMarcus Beasley suffered what now looks to possibly be a season ending knee injury suffered against Bundesliga club Stuttgart. The Glasglow Daily Record is reporting Beasley suffered “damaged knee ligaments” and will presumably miss the rest of Rangers 07-08 campaign.
This is quite a blow for Beasley, who started off this summer by rediscovering his dangerous form of many blue moons ago (2002) by imposing his speed on opponents in both the Gold Cup winning campaign and various friendly matches. This eventually earned him his contract at the second most (and only other) impressive club in Scotland, Rangers. Rangers started the year off well and looked to be challenging Celtic for the title while possibly advancing deeper into the European competition season, but DaMarcus Beasley will no longer be apart of it.
This will also put Beasley out of the friendly matches currently scheduled for the beginning of 2008. This is really going to test the will power of Beasley, who once again will suffer a serious setback in his roller coaster ride of a career.
One player who may fill the left-footed attacking void left by DMB could be Freddy Adu, who’s club suffered an eliminating blow not from their opponent AC Milan, who they drew with 1-1 (Adu sub-in 87), but from Celtic player Massimo Donati finding twine in stoppage time of the Bhoys fixture against Shaktar Donetsk, crushing Benfica’s hope of advancing to the knockout stages.
Benfica can still advance to the UEFA Cup knockout stage by defeating Donetsk on the last match day of group play.
