Former Olympian Club Movement
A couple real big transfers of note today.
Let’s start with the bigger.
MLS has accepted a bid of $5 million for Toronto FC and USMNT midfielder Maurice Edu from Scottish perennial runners-up Glasgow Rangers. As you all know, the club also acts as the home of American left-winger DaMarcus Beasley. Ives says Edu is in the process of finalizing personal terms with the Ibrox club, and the deal should be hashed out soon. For real though, can us American SPL nuetrals please have a yank sign for Celtic? Their kits are dank and I need one ahora.
5$ mill is a nice sum for MLS and Maurice Edu in the form of green and respect, respectively. What an interesting sentance that was…
Edu has had himself a nice international run of late, including being one of the standouts in the Olympic group stages for Team USA. He has also recently earned a call up to the World Cup Qualifying match against Guatemala. Adding to the already talented Edu’s resume is his new found versatility, showing he can also function as a stand-out center back in what is an laready crowded USA midfield on all levels of the program. This move comes at the perfect time for Edu as he seemed to be falling into the lull that young Americans face in MLS when a move abroad is on the near horizon. Now he is fully prepared to continue his development as a player and has the opportunity to be a fixture with the USA for a very long time.
Also in the way of former Olympian transfers is the story of Benny Feilhaber. Yes, the man has finally foud work.
Contradictory to what I posted in yesterday’s News Nuggets, Benny Feilhaber has in fact signed for Denmark club AGF Aarhus. In context of his current situation, this could be a real good move for Benny. He gets to stay on that side of the pond number one, allowing for hosts of diferent European clubs to keep an eye on him if he starts showing the stuff he used to have. Playing time should also be no issue which is most important for him at this time. What Benny needs more than anything right now is a simple and stable European environment to train day in and day out and hit the pitch on match-days. That is whats going to help him get back to the full team level of this program.
So, what do you think of these moves? Think Glasgow could work out for Mo? Is Benny back on the rise?
By the way, i’m calling it that Wynne and Sacha are next.

I don’t think Edu is a CB, but his versatility is a strong point. I love the signing for him and I agree I would love a Celtic jersey (I don’t care about the SPL) and I think that Twelbman would look good in hoops.

Still hoping for Michael Bradley to Celtic…although, he and Boruc together might literally murder the opposition before each match. That could be fun, though.

Thank god that Feilhaber to New England rumor was nothing but hot air.
And good on Maurice Edu - he deserves it. He can play CB or CDM, and excells in both rolls. He has proven it in the MLS and in his limited international play. Again, good for him. TFC will be BADLY missing him.

Feilhaber is terrible. He can play for 3rd rate Euro teams for the rest of his career for all I care; he should never play again for the national team.
