Guzan to Villa - Done Deal

July 11th, 2008 | By: Carter Daly | 1 Comment »

A move a year in the making.

Martin O’Neil has had quite the goalie crush on Mr. Guzan for some time now. He was this (-) close to making the switch in the last transfer window prior to the MLS season, only to be turned away by the English work force in a permit battle.

All that is water under the bridge now, as Guzan completed his 1.5 million dollar transfer to Aston Villa today, according to Soccer By Ives.

First off, great move for Guzan. A prem. team on the rise with a wide open keeper situation. Guzan will have every chance to make a push for a starting spot and that is all you can ask for.

The main talking point from the land of the free and home of the brave, will be if Guzan is still in contention for an Olympic spot now that he has made the switch. Will he want to get properly acquainted with his new club? Or will he be given the opportunity to be the starter at the Beijing games? Only the long awaited roster release will lend the answer. Word is it will be revealed on Thursday. Start your giant countdown clocks right now.

What do you think of the move?

I’ll tell you what you think of it. You think its fricken great, because it is. And if you think otherwise your face will be smashed into jelly…
