Jozy Staying at Villarreal for Remainder of Season
The long awaited loan move for Jozy Altidore to a possibly lower on the table side in La Liga should be waited for no more. It’s not happening.
The combination of an injury bug that just won’t seem to stay away from the Villarreal striker contingent, coupled with impressive play when he sees the field, as head coach Manuel Pellegrini wanting Jozy to stick around for the remainder of the season.
Altidore put in an impressive 73 minute performance in his start against Huelva on the weekend in which he battered the opponent’s goal in the opening stages, ultimately helping VCF to a 2-1 win over the opponent.
With Champions League knockout rounds coming in the not-so-distant future, Altidore looks to see his playing time increase on all other competition fronts and possibly even be added to the knockout rounds roster.
Ultimately I think this is good for Altidore. He has been playing well when called upon and ultimately he deserves some type of reward for that. More than anything, Pelligrini needs him. With an inconsistent set of strikers from week to week and competition increasing on all levels, Jozy will be counted on to have an impact in some form in the second half of the season.
Let’s see what he can do.
What do you think of Altidore staying at Villarreal? Think his playing time will increase? Think he can have an impact? Is he too young for this?

Nothing better than trial by fire. This is very good at this point in his career.
Jozy went the full 90 today against Getafe as Villarreal had to make a second half come back to pull out the tie 3-3. Jozy had a hand in at least one goal and played another solid overall game. I know the reason that Jozy is playing so much is due to injuries but he sure seems like he belongs.

As others have noted…since Jozy has been at VCF his touch has gotten noticeably better. It seems he has a learned a ton in a small amount of time and it also seems like he’s forged solid friendships especially with Rossi. Also, as long as he continues to see minutes, even if it’s off the bench I am all for him staying. If he has a string of games where he’s not making the bench, at least, then it may be time to move on but as of right now I think this is about as perfect of a situation as possibly for Jozy. Also, as Carter noted in his post, Jozy seems to be playing very well when he sees minutes so he should continue to play.
