Landycakes Goes Back to Germany

Well, the first step to The Amazing Criswell’s prediction has come true.

Landon Donovan will, in fact, join Bayern Munich on a loan deal starting January 1 and ending anywhere from mid-March to the end of the Bundesliga season.

We’ll have plenty more on this development later, as I’m sure Carter will have a few words on the matter. Until then, the Luca Toni wife banging starts…now.

I believe this loan will go to atleast the end of the season if not a permanent move. His first potential game cold be January 27th in the DFB Cup as in Germany they have one of the longest winter breaks than any other league as theirs goes from mid December to the end of January. I highly doubt he’ll be there just for 7 – 8 weeks of games. Either way I hope he really succeeds their. Because if he can prove that he can play at a huge club like Bayern Munich then maybe other managers across Europe will actually be less fearful of playing American outfield players. There’s cases where Americans have clearly been better players but aren’t getting the opportunities from the gaffers over in Europe.

As always pseudinho you are right on. Should be interesting to see what he can do. I am confused about one thing though. Bayern has 4 more matches before their winter break. Is it not possible for Landon to see time in one of these games?

I may be wrong, but I think he’ll be eligible only after the winter break.

I Donovan is making a mistake! Bayern Munich has historically been very much invested in German players when it comes to playing time (which is not a bad thing for the German football). Foreign players must be something especial to make the cut and gain a spot amongst the starting eleven. Bayern are not the kind of club that is known for its patience with new players. You either produce right off the bat, or you won’t even have a spot on the bench.

SO where is Donovan going to play? Who is coming off to make room for Donavan?

He is coming back home sooner than he might have planned.

GS: I don’t believe so. Remember, the transfer window doesn’t open until January 1, so no moves can be completed before then.

This is a total Klinsman move. He wanted him there, so I think it’s likely Landon will at least get his opportunity to prove himself. Klinsman is one of the few world managers that actually doesn’t have negative bias towards American players. Landon will have to fight for playing time, but I think it may be likely he’ll be getting minutes. At his positions the depth at Bayern isn’t their. On the wings Bayern has Ribery and Shweinsteigher. Up front that have Toni and Klose. And Podolski who seems to be the thirs player at both those positions will likely be gone January 1st.

yeah afshin, i see what you are saying but i think the klinsmann reign at bayern hasn’t fully gone by the germans-first rule, as bayern is now heavily dependent on many foreign players such as ribery, luca toni, and ze roberto, while their most prominent benchrider (lucas podolski) is german. i think he will get a satisfactory amount of playing time, as klinsmann will want to see enough of donovan to know whether to keep him or not.

Brooks: I now feel dumb for making that comment. Obviously the transfer/loan won’t go through until Jan. 1st or after. Not sure what I was thinking.

About Landon’s playing time pseudinho has it right, once again. Klinsman is a world man. He’s not caught up on nationalities, he’s caught up on who’s going to produce the best results. Bayern is probably the best German club Landon could have ended up at especially if he’s getting minutes.

GS, I feel as if somehow we were separated at birth or something. Should I be worried?….LOL! Klinsman loves the L.A. lifestyle and lived their several years and knows Landon well, FC Bayern brashly calls it self Hollywood FC, what’s better for Hollywood FC then to have a player from the L.A. area? Jurgen = not your typical German. Which is a good thing for Landon. Because Americans have had problems breaking into squads in Europe just based on the fact that they are Americans. This will not be the case with Landon and Jurgen. So if he succeeds then it will be based on production and if he fails it will be based on production and no other outside biases should come into play at least in this situation.

I personally can tell Psuedinho that he is definitely right. Me and him have a connection like we used to live on the same block or something. Landon is good enough to make the squad at Munchen. He is the best US player by far and everyone will soon realize it. By the way me and Psuedinho are thee Illinois Church FlagFootballl Champions of 08 so suck it baby!

Good one kyle. Always good to get a FlagFootball Champions remark in there. I know Klinsmann liked Landon, but usually managers will refrain some from commenting if they are interested in a player or like a player, but Klinsmann had no apprehensions on mentioning how much he thought of Landon.

More on Donovan, Munich, and Klinsmann. Looks like Jurgen wants the move to at the very least be until the end of the Bundesliga season.
