Weekend Round-Up: Notable Yanks

Disclaimer: Now, this isn’t everyone, mind you, but just the guys I thought to track this weekend.
Let’s start with the good news:
-Clint Dempsey scored his first goal of the Premier League season on Sunday and it was quite the good timing. He slotted it in at the 87th minute (after coming on as a sub in the 71st minute) to put Fulham even with a suddenly Redknapp-less Pompey side. The match ended as a 1-1 draw. We’ve seen Deuce in fine form over the last few World Cup Qualifiers, but it’s nice to finally see it translate to the club level. Hopefully this match-saving performance well earn him more significant playing time.
-Jose Francisco Torres played a full 90 minutes in Pachuca’s 1-1 draw with Moriela on Saturday. That was just his third start of the season for Pachuca (who are 13 matches into their season) and after subbing in at halftime of their previous match, it’s nice to see him getting some recognition.
-Landon Donovan scored on a late penalty kick to give Galaxy a 2-2 draw with Dallas on Sunday (sadly, FrankenCooper did not score). Mrs. Landycakes is pleased:

-In what is becoming a regular occurrence, Michael Bradley started in Gladbach’s 1-0 win over Karlsruhe on Saturday. He was subbed off in the 77th minute, 16 minutes after the lone goal was scored.
-Timmy Howard sent Manchester United back home with nothing more than a 1-1 draw on Saturday. Considering Everton are currently 16th in the table with a goal differential of -6, I’d say that’s very much a moral victory.
-DaMarcus Beasely played 74 minutes for Rangers in their 3-1 win over Hamilton.
And for the bad news:
-Maurice Edu did not factor into that contest against Hamilton at all. Silver lining: a midweek CIS Insurance Cup match against the same side should get him some action.
-Party Boy Danny Szetela was unavailable for Brescia’s 3-1 win over Modena on Saturday, despite scoring a goal for his squad last weekend.
-Jozy Altidore was also unavailable for Villareal’s 4-4 goalfest with Atletico Madrid (though Giuseppe Rossi did score the vital fourth goal for Villareal…I’m sure you’re all happy to hear that).
-And finally, Freddy Adu spent another Saturday as an unused sub while Monaco battled Toulouse to a 0-0 draw. Talenetless wonder Park Chu-Young again started ahead of him and, judging by the scoreline, again failed to do much of anything.
Oh, and I spent my Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field watching the Eagles beat the Falcons, then went home to see the Phillies put themselves a game away from winning the World Series. So, yeah, I had a good weekend. Thanks for asking.

I had the Monaco game on my TV and then realized two things that made me change the channel quickly… 1) Freddy wouldn’t see any meaningful minutes 2) I quickly realized how much I hate the French… but I was le tired…

Marlon…one day the scousers’ impossible luck will run out. And on that day, I will laugh. I will laugh with a hearty glee that only comes from yet another trophy-less season for Liverpool.
Until then, know this: you’re a jerkface.

I used to like this blog…before the Phillies started winning.
I was really happy, till the Rossi news, now I’m pissed again.

So, yeah, unless you have superb control of your fire bombings, I think Carter might have some concerns over that plan.

That was a petty vindictive response to my playful jibe Brooks.

I was only kidding, Marlon. You should know by now that I don’t really think you’re a jerkface and that I consider you to be a wonderful human being with very nice nike boots…even if you do have horrible taste in football clubs.

This spans American Football. Go Jints!

I’ll never support liverpool, but it looks like you’re alone on your philly island Brooks.

Great pass to and play by Dempsey vs Portsmouth. Can’t believe the blues defense left such an opening, (@ shivam and top pic above: look at the blues standing — you can feel their “O’ shit!”), Tony Adams should be fuming. Good to see Dempsey was on the side that didn’t quit late in the game.
