Yanks Abroad Weekend Wrap Up: Jozy Goal Edition

About time we started having some great weekends on the continent for our red white and blue boys.
Let’s start off with the obvious news…
-OMG JOZY ALTIDORE SCORED A FREAKING GOAL!!!!!!1!!!1
Yeah.
That about sums it up.
Here’s a little more on Jozy opening his La Liga account…
“I did not know the fact about been the first American to score in this league but it is very nice to have achieved it. I expect that more American goals will come, from others, and also me.”
Me too, Jozy. Me too.
- Jozy wasn’t the only one with a sick weekend though. Look no further than the most consistent Yank Abroad this season in Carlos Bocanegra. Boca and his Ligue 1 team Rennes continued refusing teams to score this week, posting a 1-0 shutout vs. Sochaux. Boca continued his stellar play in the backline, and a 2nd minute penalty was all that was needed for Rennes to get the go ahead goal and drive on to victory. I know this was awhile ago, but I don’t think anyone can truly question who are captain should be now…
- Michael Bradley came off the bench this weekend for ‘Gladbach against Eintracht Frankfurt, but was unable to help Borussia mount a comeback as the fell 2-1 in yet another loss. Bradley started in the midweek which is probably the reason for his coming off the bench. It’s great to see the kid getting playing time, but I think some Saudi gazillionare needs to buy ‘Gladbach in January and go on a shopping spree to keep this squad in the Bundesliga. Any takers?
- Steve Cherundolo put in an impressive 90 performance to help lead Hannover 96 to a 3-0 thumping of a strong Hamburg SV side. Good to see at least one American’s team in the Bundesliga having some success… Can we officially call of the RB race for 2010? Or did I miss the memo like 5 months ago?
- Oguchi Onyewu didn’t fair as well this weekend. Standard Liege (how is he still on that team?) continued their recent fall in the table with an away loss to ninth-placed Charleroi. Ouch. Run Gooch, run as fast as you can…
- Landon Donovan… Oh yeah, he’s not there yet.
