USA

It’s a rematch.

Well, the Confederations Cup final will be a rematch of USA vs. Brazil, which, uh, didn’t go so great the first time around. But this time, the US is rocketing off a convincing win OVER THE BEST TEAM IN THE WORLD and Brazil is sneaking away from a 1-0 win over South Africa.

Michael Bradley will of course be wrongfully absent from this one as a result of his red card, but that just means he’ll be available to play saboteur during the match. So watch your back, Kaka. And don’t mind the growling that may or may not be coming from your locker during halftime.

More on the match later, but to change the subject ever so slightly — hey, look! Gold Cup roster announced:

GOALKEEPERS (3): Jon Busch (Chicago Fire), Troy Perkins (IK Start), Luis Robles (FC Kaiserslautern)

DEFENDERS (7): Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Jimmy Conrad (Kansas City Wizards), Clarence Goodson (IK Start), Jay Heaps (New England Revolution), Chad Marshall (Columbus Crew), Michael Parkhurst (FC Nordsjaellands), Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock)

MIDFIELDERS (8): Davy Arnaud (Kansas City Wizards), Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Colin Clark (Colorado Rapids), Sam Cronin (Toronto FC), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders), Stuart Holden (Houston Dynamo), Logan Pause (Chicago Fire), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew)

FORWARDS (5): Freddy Adu (AS Monaco), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Kenny Cooper (FC Dallas), Charlie Davies (Hammarby IF), Santino Quaranta (D.C. United)

Looks like an odd collection of players, headlined by Adu, Davies, Cherundolo, (ching), and Cooper. Yet, that was to be expected following the Confed Cup. Should be interesting to see what these guys can do with the chance to play. I hope.

The Vuvuzela is an annoying plastic trumpet also known as a stadium horn that is constantly blown at all soccer/football matches in South Africa. It sounds like a deafening mix of angry elephants trumpeting, a swarm of buzzing bees and a fog horn. What can we do? Go to http://www.banvuvuzela.com/ Register with your name, country and email and then vote. Tell your friends and family to do so too. It is our intention to submit these votes to the relevant authorities who can do something about it. Together we can make our 2010 World Cup the best experience for all.

ok the vuvuzela is annoying but it is a part of south african football. i don’t know about banning it, but maybe only allow them during matches in which RSA plays next summer? if we really want to make the experience better, let’s ban tommy smyth.

overall, i like the gold cup roster but i think i would have liked to see marvell wynne in there bc he is by no means an established USMNT player and he needs the experience. plus, i know dolo has been injured and all, but that’s why he should be training with his club bc i think a healthy dolo is a shoe-in for our world cup 23. would have liked to see a young keeper in there to gain USMNT experience (is josh lambo any good?) instead of jon busch. also on a technical note, freddy adu’s loan with monaco is officially over (thank god) so he’s benfica again.

Brooks! Is that the best picture you could find…our defender whiffing on the ball and, after getting beaten soundly, kicking a brazilian in the knee!!!?! Hahaha. Let’s hope we don’t see too much of that on Sunday. Well, what’s sports without superstition–this worked on Wednesday, so i post it again: US 2-1 BRAZIL. GO USA!

If there is a soccer god, please let Adu play Sunday. I wouldn’t mind a minor tweek to Donovan that would only keep him out a day and he would be 100% ready to go the next day ;-) .

Let the creativity of Adu on the field to show-up some of the Brasileros…PLZZZZ!!!!

Good luck to us.

I really want to see Adu play but Feilhaber has definitely earned a start after his performance as a sub the past couple of games and he did put one on target last time against Brazil.

Did anybody see the Jim Rome is Burning show after the game? Jim Rome is such a jackass. He said “Soccer isn’t so much a sport as it is a reason to riot.” than he called dida a placekicker. “…but I don’t want to take away from what I acknowledge to be a great win for the US, a win that not one person in this country thought possible. But then again I can think of more than three or four people in this country that really care, or even knew we were playing…but I’m not here to hate, I fact I raise this CapriSun to all of you fellas. a toast to you. (drinks pouch) Lets not confuse a great win with a great sport. In this country soccer still rates somewhere between the worlds strongest man and professional poker, but I’m not here to hate, just to restate.” what a douche.

yeah weston, really bad scheduling on espn’s part to play jim rome right after every game, allowing him to make his dumbass quotes. whenever he says that though, this is the only thing that comes to my mind: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uczUKTwgqeY
