Report from England: USA vs England at Wembley May 28

February 10th, 2008 | By: Carter Daly | 17 Comments »

beckham438.jpgReports out of England are touting a possible rematch of the Revolutionary War, this time on England’s side of the pond, on May 28th.

This would be an amazing matchup for Bob’s boys, and would supposedly also be the time and place for America’s own David Beckham to gain his 100th cap for England.

Even though they failed to qualify for Euro 2008, England are still to be considered one of the big boys on the block in international football and this would be a great opportunity for the United States to face one of the traditional powers of the game in their home stadium and show the world what we are made of. As Clint and Nike say, “Don’t tread on this”.

A true dream match-up. Let’s hope it comes true.

I will be back later in the week with a full update on the friendly schedual for the future.

For now, let’s get your thoughts on this possible USA vs England matchup?

brilliant match-up. Now with Capello in charge it would be a real learning experience.

[...] As happy as I am about the rugby win, I wouldn’t have strayed away from football unless there was a decent way back. England coach Fabio Capello has stated today that he wants to go ahead with a friendly between the ‘auld enemies’ England and Scotland at some point. When neither side made it into Euro 2008, there was widespread speculation that a summer friendly would be in the works. The two haven’t met since November 1999, when England won 2-1 on aggregate over two legs to progress to Euro 2000. The most likely date for a rematch seemed to be May 28th, but George Burley saw that as a bit early for his new squad to take on such an important match, especially given its proximity to the Scottish Cup final. Now it looks like Scotland may be headed to Iran that day, and England playing host to the United States. [...]

I love that England fans still hold onto their world cup win all the way back in 1966! 48 years and counting. England is falling as a powerhouse and the USA is on the rise. We are going to come to Wembley and drag your sorry pompous asses all over the pitch. People don’t give us any respect and shouldn’t the US be the favorite because we beat a team that actually got to Euro 2008? How good can a team be that dosen’t even qualify for their federations championship. P.S. we also beat Portugal who you guys lost to and don’t give me this lame excuse about Ronaldo. I watched the game it was an obvious red card. And how about Beckham coming out because he was “sick” you guys can have him back by the way
