Spain Pre-Match Briefing

June 3rd, 2008 | By: Carter Daly | 4 Comments »

Tommorow the USMNT will be facing a whole different animal in Spain.

The shape, ball movment, and attack will be total 180 from what the three lions showed in the new Wembley.

What is good for the viewer is that the game itself will look nothing like the England encounter, what is worse may be the score line. Once again, Bob Bradley does not have the opportunity to implement Landon Donovan into the lineup as he is still out injured. So, once again (again), there is the call for young Freddy Adu to get the start. After the Josh Wolff disaster agsinst England, I really don’t see how Bob can pass on Freddy again. But then again, I can’t really see how he did it the first time.

Anyways, here is the lineup I am looking for…

———–Johnson———-

–Beasley—Adu—Dempsey

——Bradley—-Mastroeni—

Pearce—Boca–Gooch–’Dolo

In all honesty, I would probably rather see Edu then Mastro, as well as DeMerit at one of the CB spots, but Papa Bradley seems to have a Chi town hard-on for Boca for whatever reason, so don’t count on seeing it.

What lineup do you want to see? Score prediction?

yeah agreed with that team. i also think edu should start but mastro starting isn’t as big of a deal as clark starting. mastro at least has some experience. i would also like to see hejduk start at right-back instead of “dolo”.

I would like to see DeMerit at one of the CB spots, but in place of Gooch. I thought Gooch’s lack of speed was exposed in the loss to England, and Spain brings a speedier squad to the pitch.

I think we can all agree that Josh Wolff has no place in this match, but then I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in the starting line up…again. Put Adu in there!

The only meaningful change the US can make in its lineup is at the top. We need a coach who actually understands how the game is played at the highest levels. Sadly, there is no American who fits that bill so we’ll need to import a foreign coach. Until that time, our specific lineups just aren’t that significant compared to our lack of technical and tactical nous.

No Wolff. EJ up top only because he’s the only option we have traveling with the team right now. He definitely is not the long term solution.
Frankie H. is a tough scappy defender, but I’ve never seen such bad service from a right back. Why are we playing these older guys who will not factor into the future of the team? Mastroeni? Bob B. is killing me.
By the way, while Landy is nursing his groin is there anyone that can put a corner into the box?
