Starting Lineup / Pre-game Prediction

February 6th, 2008 | By: Carter Daly | 3 Comments »

Here is your starting XI for tonight’s rendition of the biggest rivalry in CONCACAF:

GK - Howard
RB - Moor
CB - Onyewu
CB - Bocanegra
LB - Corrales
RW - Donovan
CM - Clark
CM - Bradley
LW - Convey
FW - Dempsey
FW - Altidore

The unexperienced Drew Moor gets the start at RB, being the only natural on the team. Corrales fills in for Heathe as expected at LB. Clark over Edu in the midfield, experience over youth.

The big story is Jozy, who gets his first start with the Men’s National Team, and what a time to do it. If he scores things could get insane.

Prediction: 3-2 USA Weak defense on both sides open up the flood gates…why not?

The US did not play well, they were dominated by Mexico the entire game, and were lucky to come off with a draw. Had the Mexican strikers been more accurate, this would have finished 4-2 in favor of Mexico. Bradley needs to address these problems, especially when you are outplayed by your rival. Where was Donovan, he was completely silenced by the Mexican defenders as well!

The Clint Dempsey goal should have counted–so it probably should have been 3-3 or 4-3. The biggest thing I take away from this game is a Clark-Bradley pairing is doomed to failure. We looked far too disjointed in our play when they were together. Things improved quite a bit when they brought Benny on–even if he isn’t at 100% match fitness because Derby is inexplicably sitting him.

And I thought Donovan had a good first half and a quiet second half. He did set up the goal from Gooch–and he abused their left back a couple of times. I think our biggest issues were all in defense.
