Arena Drops Some Half Time Hints

April 8th, 2006 | By: Daryl | 2 Comments »

Bruce Arena was interviewed on ESPN2 during the DC United - Chivas half time break, and seemed happy to drop a few hints about his World Cup roster. I may be paraphrasing, but here are the highlights:

On John O’Brien:

He’s a talented player … if he’s fit and in any kind of form we want to take him … [against Jamaica] he’ll hopfeully play somewhere between 15 and 30 minutes.

On available roster spots:

I’m definite with 18 players … there are 5 interesting positions still to fill … I could mabye name all the way up to 21 definite players.

On those ‘5 interesting positions’:

We’re looking to fill out the midfield and work out how many forwards and defenders we want to bring.

Daryl,

Thanks for filling us in… My son had a match today, and so I had to leave before I got to hear The Bruce.

You know, concerning the last paragraph, I thought I had already read somewhere that he was definitely going to take only 4 forwards. I recall this happening right around the Japan friendly… I guess I might look for that tomorrow or Monday.

Anyone else remember hearing that?
