Arena Not Ruling O’Brien Out

March 21st, 2006 | By: Daryl | 3 Comments »

Bruce Arena is not ruling out John O’Brien making his World Cup squad. Arena told Soccer America magazine:

There’s hope for John O’Brien. We’re going to have to see where he is over the next month and make some determinations. He’s starting to train a bit and that’s about as much as I have right now.

Not a guarantee by any means, but it’s more encouraging than what he said about Freddy Adu.

Thanks, Daryl, for bringing this to our collective attention — I appreciate the work you are doing on this blog.

This was a burning question I had in my mind, and I posted a comment about it below. Thanks for answering that comment and for finding and linking to Bruce Arena’s comments.

Also my big thanks to Daryl and others for a great blog.

On the Germany game, I think we should really consider it a success if we can get out of this game with only a one goal loss. We’re really playing a second string squad today.

No Donovan, Beasley, Reyna, McBride, Onyewu, Lewis, Dempsey, Bocanegra, Hejduk (am I forgetting others?) against a strong German squad in Germany.

What would you guys consider a success in this game?

Can O’brien get playing time before the cup? I read that he is trying to sign with an MLS team but Ithought he would have to wait until June sometime to do that?
