It’s official. Bruce Arena was named New York Red Bulls boss this morning.

He starts work August 12th, against Barcelona. Good luck with that Bruce!

I would be depressed as hell if I were the Bruce. You go from coaching in two WC to coaching possibly the worst team in MLS. I just hope he make all those rumors true about bringing in big name foreign players to the Red Bulls like Zidane and Ronaldo. They won’t last long, but goodness to this league need a few stars, even if they are a bit over the hill.

Whoa. It is shocking how accurate the media has been in terms of rumor accuracy. Mad props for quality sources!

This is a good move for Bruce and RBNY. However, I thought he was going to take time off to mull options?

Bruce needs at least two years to turn this franchise around (not including this one), we’ll see if he’s given that much time.

Lucky as in the new job cannot be as stressful as the last one, and he probably is going to have a lot more fun with it as well.
Sure the prestige isn’t as high, but heck, it’s a nice team, owned by the Red Bulls, and he gets to be in the Big Apple.
For a career, he’s lucky to be able to jump on to something new so quickly.

I thought Zidane said he’s not turning back on his words of retirement because that would make him a hypocrite?

Sure, it’s a good job and likely way better than anything I’ll ever do for a living. But, aside from the depressing sense that it’s a step down from coaching the national team, dontcha feel kinda sorry for anybody when you hear, “He will begin coaching the New York Red Bulls against Barcelona”?

So, good luck to RBNY and I hope they prove me wrong in that match, but it sounds to me sorta like, “He will be wrapped in venison and thrown to a pack of wolves.” What a way to start a job.

What Zidane said was international retirement, which means he won’t play for france anymore, but he could still play for his club team. Like what Nedved did… that’s why he was able to come out of retirment for the Czech Republic right at the end of their qualifying run, because he was still fit and sharp on account of playing for his club.

Adam -

No, I think ZZ meant no longer playing at all, be it club, international, or otherwise.

He may manage though…

Really? That’s a shame. I still wouldn’t be that suprised to see him, or at the very least someone like him, come to MLS. It’s kind of the perfect place to play when you’re old and you already have loads of money. The competition won’t give you much trouble, there won’t be much pressure from the fans or media, and you live in the states. But, I guess if you’re living in france, you may not want to come anyway.

ZZ retired from club and international football (His last game at Real Madrid was also his farewell game).

However, he has retired and come back before. I wouldn’t mind seeing him play in the MLS, maybe his friend Djorkaeff (SP?) can convince him to play!

I super excited about the Barcelona game in New York….does anyone know for sure if their top players will play? I already have tickets, but dont’want to get my hopes too high (right now I expect to see the top players for a half, and the subs for a half)

Good luck Bruce! God knows you are going to need it. The Bulls are arguably the worst team in the MLS.

As an LA Galaxy fan, you are stepping from the frying pan into well…….

Good luck anyway!
