Bruce Doesn’t Trust Czechs

June 8th, 2006 | By: Daryl | 4 Comments »

Arena isn’t putting much faith in news that Pavel Nedved and Milan Baros are injured.

“You don’t know what any of that means,” he said at todays press conference. “If you go by the press reports, three or four of their top players are out. On Monday I’d guess we’re going to see all of them on the field. Until I hear or see otherwise we’re preparing to go against all of their best players. The Kollers, the Baroses the Rosickys, what have you.”

Fair enough. If we’re prepared then at least we can’t be taken by surprise, but I didn’t know the Czechs had had more than one Koller. Have we got an extra Onyewu to mark him?

Is it just me, or does this photo make Arena look like a science officer on Kirk’s Enterprise? (It’s the shirt.)

Dear God, Daryl I hope you were being facetious. I’ve seen you make a lot of illogical comments, but this one would have to take the cake.

Anyway GO USA!!!!!!!

The pluralizations are just one of those sports commentator-type constructions that always peeve me. NFL broadcasters quite often say things like: “Well that’s what happens when _a_ McNabb leaves the pocket” or “I wouldn’t want to tackle _a_ Ricky Williams.” It’s like they use “a” as short for “a player like.” But it always drives me nuts when they talk like that.

Dear God, Bidemi I hope you were being facetious. I’ve heard of people being absolutley clueless, but you would have to take the cake.

As far as Arena’s comments, I like the way he thinks. Here’s to a great run and to the glimmer of hope that Arena will be with us in four years.
