Charlie Davies is our Great Hope and Bill Simmons is our new ally
Charlie Davies — the Azteca Stunner himself — gave an encore performance in his debut for French club Sochaux by scoring both their goals in a 3-2 loss to Ligue 1 defending champions Bordeaux.
His recent form for both country and now club should leave no more doubters as to his importance with the US MNT. Charlie Davies is a vital talent and a deadly weapon.
Now just imagine him paired with an in-form Jozy and you should be leaking fluids from every orifice of your body.
Meanwhile, back home, ESPN.com’s Bill Simmons has published an account of his trip to Mexico for last week’s World Cup Qualifier that you really should read. It’s a nice look at the terminal danger, psychotic importance, and painfully obvious shortcomings of the US team that smacked a shocked newcomer in the face.
Maybe a voice as loud as The Sports Guy’s questioning Bob Bradley’s tactical failures will help.

This wasn’t Charlie Davies Ligue 1 debut. This was his second Ligue 1 match. He played 20 minutes in his first Ligue 1 match on August 8th.

Good call, Pseudinho. With the Prem starting last weekend, I had openers on the mind.

Davies made some “controversial” comments to the media after the game that a lot of US haters didn’t exactly enjoy.
“For my first match at the [Stade] Bonal, I could not have expected better,” he told L’Alsace. “I scored two goals against the French champions, although I am disappointed it ended in defeat.
“I have plenty of energy to give to my new club. You haven’t seen anything yet.”
I personally think the comments are perfect and that a young American playing in Europe showing confidence is exactly what we need. With Kenny Cooper doing some solid things for 1860 and Charlie obviously getting it done with Sochaux this has been a GREAT start to the European club season for American’s.

@GS…If you want to be the best, F everyone!!! Especially eurotrash when it comes to soccer.
Who cares what anyone thinks? I’m not saying Charlie is the following at all, but if being an arrogant bastard provides the confidence a player needs to succeed on the field, go for it.
So, GS, I agree with you.

Good job for Davies. There is nothing more important for a striker than to score goals. Also, thanks for recommending that article by Bill Simmons, it was really excellent. He includes some great constructive criticism that US fans and the federation should and are keeping in mind. Mostly, size and physicallity aren’t everything… but if you can match those with skill and technique, no one will complain.

I find it incredibly endearing how nervous he looks as he’s being subbed in. He’s obviously thinking, “Please don’t let me be the next Freddy Adu. Please don’t let me be the next…”

Thanks for linking the Bill Simmons article. That is a great read. It just makes me wonder with the Mexican Soccer Association (don’t know it real name) is going to step in and stop what seems to happen when US teams go to Mexico. UEFA has really stepped up and tried to stop some of this in Europe by banning fans from games. I think CONCACAF needs to start doing the same thing.
Anyway, this is a great showing from Davies. I hope that it continues and he sees a lot of success. I like the way he plays and I hope that he can really help the USMNT.

Jozy assisted on the game winning goal today for Hull City a minute after he entered the match in the 60th minute. He also had multiple shots on goal. A great start to his EPL season.

Here’s a good article about Jozy’s debut…
