Clint Dempsey: Don’t Tread On This

Ladies and gentlemen… Clint “Deuce” Dempsey.

I’m no expert, but this seems pretty decent. Goes some way toward countering the ’spoilt rich kid’ view some people have of soccer players in America.

Unfortunately, the rapper in the video John “Big Hawk” Hawkins, who had apparently struck up a friendship with Dempsey, was killed in early May.

You mean, like Vanilla Ice did?

I know that “Deuce” penned the rap, at least in part. I just wonder if it was his idea, or Big Hawk’s, to rap, “I’ll cross-over like the Great Clint Dempsey.”

To quote Dempsey from the article:

They play the song before the national team games, which is really cool.

Just for that Im going to download the mp3.

I think this is comical at best. It’s almost as if US Soccer hired a PR firm to help penetrate the “urban” market in a sublte attempt to get inner city kids to play soccer instead of basketball and football.

And “Deuce” may be entirely authentic in this endeavor, but it’s laughable to me.

As a true Hip-Hop fan, I can tell you that this song/video isn’t half bad. Compare it to Shaq’s, AI’s, and Ron Artest’s attempts at hip-hop, and it looks like a platinum hit. It’s nice to hear rap about something else for a change.

Anyone know where to download this mp3? As someone who rarely listens to the genre, I actually like this song, and want to get it on my iPod before flying to Germany next week to cheer the lads on against Italy.

I thought this was a great song, and I see a movie story coming out for Clint D., soccer, and Big Hawk… Congradulations Clint on your accomplishments, my deepest sympathy goes out to you. I hope you show Big Hawk and your country what it’s all about in the World Cup…! The Spirit lives on…!

Finally!!!

An American Soccer Player that has a flair, personality and desire that can open the eyes of the media and youth of America.
The only way the US will become a Soccer giant is if our players have a diverse background and live and bleed soccer from their heart, eyes, and soul.

Clint Dempsey does!!

He best be in the World Cup opener in Germany or Bruce arena is a blind fool.

freddy Adu nothing!! Clint Dempsey is the future of American soccer.

Clint is from Nacogdoches, Texas and was a friend of Big Hawk. They did a video because they both love the sport of soccer and what it means to many young kids growing up urban or rural, rich or poor.
“Dont tread” is exactly about people like Seamus, who like to dis American soccer any chance they get. Listen to the lyrics. It ain’t about marketing it’s about expressing his feelings for the sport.
