Cobi Jones to Retire

March 23rd, 2007 | By: Connor Fabiano | 1 Comment »

I know this announcement happened several days ago, however I decided I would make a post about it here because of the significant contributions Cobi Jones made to the US National Team.

Jones was a member of the US World Cup squad in both 1994 and 1998. He was also on the 2002 quarter finalist team that stunned the soccer world in Korea/Japan.

Cobi Jones played his “college ball” at UCLA, and also spent a year with Coventry City (England) and Vasco da Gama (Brazil). He returned to the US in 1996 and he’s been a star with the LA Galaxy since, earning 281 appearances and 66 goals.

On Monday, Cobi Jones announced that this upcoming season will be his last (Sister-Blog LA Galaxy Offside has more).

Here’s a great video that sums up his career for both the LA Galaxy and the US MNT:

Also, check out a video of Cobi Jones’s retirement announcement.

I like Cobi, hopefully his final year will end on on a good note.
