“Don’t Tread” Jerseys

May 28th, 2006 | By: Daryl | 2 Comments »

In a not at all marketing motivated stunt, the team will wear one-off “Don’t Tread” themed jerseys for tonight’s game against Latvia.

We won’t see what the jerseys look like until the players get on the pitch.

I’m all for Nike pushing a slightly grittier version of soccer, and could just about appreciate the Dempsey video, but using the national team jersey as one big commercial is pushing things a little too far and makes me want to take a shower.

Will all the players have to dance with Dempsey before the match when they play his “Don’t Tread (On Me)” rap song?

FairPlay needs to address this.

If they weren’t so expensive, I’d consider getting one — I’d fit right in with Sam’s Army (when I decide to formally join it).

But from what I understand, these kits are going to be worn once, and only once, tonight only.

And, after watching the game versus Latvia, the shirts looked perpetually wet — even when B.Ching came on as a sub late in the game, his jersey looked… not sweaty, but just wet.

If I still want one after a few months, I’ll search Ebay. Maybe.
