Game Worn “Don’t Tread” Jerseys For Sale

May 29th, 2006 | By: Daryl | 4 Comments »

If you’ve got a spare $1,000 and love the smell of sweat then you might want to visit the US Soccer store. They’re selling game worn “Don’t Tread” jerseys from the 1-0 win over Latvia. I knew they were limited edition, but that’s pushing it.

A little out of my price range, but it’s all for a good cause. Proceeds will go to two charities: US Soccer Foundation and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The kit is OK by me, and it’s cool that the snake symbol goes back to one of our earliest flags.

But - as cool as it is - invoking the snake as our national footballing symbol doesn’t hold up when consider the national symbol of our arch-rival footballing neighbors to the south: an eagle with a snake in it’s mouth, presumably dead.

Bossimo,

Being an American History teacher, I, too, like the fact that the slogan and symbol comes from our Revolutionary period. If the fans want to wear it on t-shirts and such, have at it.

However, I just think that it looks very cheesy to have it printed on the sleeve of a kit that we play in.

BTW, very perceptive comment about Mexico’s symbol compared to the snake in this Nike campaign.

I am glad you all have pointed out some of the historical signifigance about the snake and all. But when I turned on the game I went “which team is Latvia.” I really did not laike the uniforms and so I am glad it was a one time thing.
