Is DMB Our Most Successful Export Ever?
This was news to me, but it seems DMB has suffered through a fair bit of racial abuse in Eindhoven.
“When I got here, people would do the monkey noises and chants and stuff like that,” he says in this ESPN article. “I just kind of laugh it off … I take most of the free kicks and corner kicks so I’m in the corner and I can hear it — you know, stuff.”
Cory Gibbs says it’s tough enough just being American. “It’s still the same,” he says. “They haven’t heard of a lot of our players, and then you go over there being American, you have to prove yourself — unlike a Brazilian player, where they would expect the best out of him.”
This in mind, is DMB our most successful export ever? He’s still only 23, yet he’s a regular at a big(ish) European club, has won titles (which is something McBride and Bocanegra won’t be doing at Fulham) and appeared in the Champion’s League semi-final (which Bocanegra and McBride can only dream about).

Dave Mathews Band is playing in this World Cup?

I would have to say, based on club status (PSV is one of best teams in Europe), position on team (perrenial starter), etc., that yes, he is our most successful export ever.

DMB is awesome, and he’s got a great career ahead. However, our most successful export ever is, and may always be, Reyna. He is the first American to captain an Premiership side, and his value is known throughout the world. Named to the all-WC squad in ‘02. He’s the best ever.

“Dave Mathews Band is playing in this World Cup?”
Isn’t Dave Mathews from South Africa?

What about John Harks? Harksey made a (sorta) splash in England first, with some memorable goals.
But all in all, I’d say DMB and Reyna are the two tops for the USA.

Keller is the most successful. He’s had the longest career and has played in the biggest leagues.
DMB might get there some day.

Reyna, Keller, and Friedel are more successful than Beasley in my opinion. But give DMB some more time.

I was hoping for an enlightment: what is DMB?

DaMarcus Beasley, of course!

[...] There was a bit of confusion on USA WCB this week. We were debating whether or not DMB was our most successful export and Euler from the excellent Brazil blog wanted to know why were talking about the Dave Matthews Band. [...]
