Italians Have Never Heard Of US Players

June 16th, 2006 | By: Daryl | 27 Comments »

Italian players have admitted they’ve never heard of most of the US squad. When asked to name a US player, Andrea Pirlo said:

“There is Reyna, who plays in Europe and then there is the other lad from PSV Eindhoven.”

The Italians will apparently see some video footage before the game, but it definitely raises hopes that one or two players could catch them by surprise.

There’s probably no disprespect intended. As the majority of the Italy squad play in their home country they rarely face US players.

We will “No” them, Jerry? Lol.

I hope so. I hope Buffon and the Italian defense can “No” Donovan and co. all afternoon.

This is what I would expect. I can’t name an Italian player in the NBA.

I can name an Argentine: Ginbobili. A brazilian: Barbosa. And a mexican: Najera.

But as for Italians, only D’Antoni…and he is a coach.

I’m impressed that they know Reyna and that we have a player at PSV.

Roland, I’m sure you can’t name an italian player in the NBA because there isn’t anyone, until next year I guess although I hope he doesn’t go in the NBA until he’s at least 24-25 or I fear he will have the same desteny of Milicic

Anyway you should also try to ask to brazialians or argentinians players if they know some of your players, they problably wouldn’t even know Reyna…

I have a hard time believing that the Italian players don’t know who plays for their opponents. What kind of preparation is that?

Still, I hope it’s true. If nothing else, we could put a fake mustache on Landon Donovan and have him spy on the Italians before game time.

You guys so gullible ? of course italians (all of them )Lippi first know everything there is to be known about US team ..if you would read the entire interviews you would see that there is an element of wit in those answer if you would read in italian you would know that for months there has been enough information about this WC printed to have dead people know it all by now! …don’t fool yourself Italy doesn’t underestimate US players will show the best possible team and last but not least have been already bitten few times by so called “lesser teams” ..NOT THIS TIME AROUND..NOT NOW!

Hey guys, I’m personally really ticked off that we lost 3:0. Here’s what a typical Italian wrote about us:

“… let me give you a free course, first learn history better, American soldiers were not the only one landing on Normandy’s beaches, they did it along with the English and the French resistance troops and actualy most of France was delivered by the french troops backed up by allied troops & weapons since uncle sam was mainly heading toward Germany … And if you want to play the history card let me remind you that American independence was fought by French armies as well. So you are pointless in posing yourself as the only nation taking part in the fight and you are pointless anyway because this blog is about football. And it’s a fact that your US team is a shame that took it hard up the ***. You suck at football (maybe you are confused with soccer and football Hahahah in Europe we call it football and that is the original name), I am sure that my great grandmother would do better than your whole country. Watch my country crush yours tomorrow evening… Italy 5 - 0 USA
eat me fat greasy ignorant burger; Europe beats the **** out of you and the marvelous thing about it is that you don t realize it yet… That’s because of people like you that most people around the world hate your country so much.”

US needs to win this one and pull out a major upset and shut them up!!

Cheers to our boys!!
Chins up US!!

I will watch the game today, however I will not be supporting that sorry excuse that we (americans) call a team. Those guys heads were so big going into the opener. Now, today they will get a taste of real world class level soccer. Hey Arena, I hear they need a new manager for the solid waste department. You would be perfect. You are already managing a lot of garbage on that world class squad of yours. LOL

Sorry, I don’t believe for a minute they’ve never heard of our players. I have counted 7
players who are with English
premiereship clubs. This league plays in European cups all season long.
What our USA team lacks is unity. I saw no team work on
the pitch, looked like a bunch of strangers kicking around a ball! Oh, and where is the passion? Come on USA we believe you can win today!!

GET A GRIP YOU AMERICANS - YOUR TEAM IS VERY POOR !! Just like the war in IRAN, you just don’t know when to stop killing your troops.

Just to spell that out for you (American led military coup d’etat in IRAN). However.. that reference probally went straight over your heads I think): see link - “Retired colonel claims U.S. military operations are already ‘underway’ in Iran”

Ron Brynaert
Published: Saturday April 15, 2006

{It is important to realize that if/when the US attacks Iran that the price per barrel of oil will skyrocket perhaps greater than US$100 - and this will directly impact all of our lives in a severe manner.}

http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Retired_colonel_claims_U.S._Military_operations_0415.html

[SNIP]
During an interview on CNN Friday night, retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Sam Gardiner claimed that U.S. military operations are already ‘underway’ inside Iran, RAW STORY has found.

“I would say — and this may shock some — I think the decision has been made and military operations are under way,” Col. Gardiner told CNN International anchor Jim Clancy (as noted by Digby at the blog Hullabaloo).

P.s amars.. you muppet; your view is the typical hype of a patriotic “Yankee Doodle Dandy” idiot - who questions nothing because your need to follow a crowd controls you !!

lol :)

tomintaz if the crowd that follow is the american crowd then im guilty. Your just another liberal tree hugger that has problem with everything the US does. Looks like the crowd controls you. If we military in IRAN it must be for a good reason. At least we have the big balls in this country to do something about terrorism. If and when they attack your country like they attack our maybe you’ll feel the same way.

The only way you’re gonna “catch them by surprise” is by not turning up.

I’m not missing this game though, it’s going to be Argentina/Serb&Mont all over again.

Hey Sean,

I am a bit offended by your use of the language “a typical Italian” wrote about us…. if you could name somebody specific I would be glad to pummel them on their clearly misguided and misinformed view of WWII history. I will even give an enlightened view on the Revolutionary War fought by Americans… As for the 5-0 victory.. well the Italians could not even muster a victory after the ref clearly handed red cards out unfairly.. the same ref who was nailed for inconsistent refereeing in the 2002 World Cup by his own group of referees… I rest my case.. The US dominated Italy even being a man down and tying 1 to 1….does not matter who scored.. the result speaks of the team who got the best result….

Wow Jettagob I’m impressed with the research you put into your posts, very informative. I’m not familiar with the “pond” analogy, but I’m always up for a beer with a fellow war-monger.

Credit where it’s due tho, US played a great game and never gave Italy chance to get into their rhythm. After the “elbow” incident I found myself routing for your guys and felt you deserved a win. It was great to see abit of bite in a game and the ref was outstandingly bad which added more fuel to the fire.

So I say sod the football, let’s see more blood on the pitch!
