Johnson Returns to Dallas for Guatemala Friendly

February 18th, 2006 | By: WC Bob | No Comments »

The same week that Eddie Johnson learned he would be leaving Dallas for Kansas City, the US striker returns to Texas to play in the US friendly against Guatemala. Evert the diplomat, Johnson says:

”Dallas has to look out for what’s best for them, and I have to look out for my best interests as well. Overall, I had a great time there, and I’m looking forward to going back to Pizza Hut Park this weekend and seeing all the great fans.”

While he tries to move the trade to the back of his mind, Johnson certainly needs to focus his efforts on making the US team in Germany. Right now, I would give place him on the proverbial bubble as Bruce Arena continues to find the combination up front that he will take to the World Cup.

Says Arena: ”He still has that speed and that’s not going to change. I think that over the next couple months Eddie should be back in full form and be a player who is challenging for a spot on the World Cup roster.”

I like Eddie Johnson. His speed is deadly and I love his work rate. His health is always an issue so the key might be for him to survive the next few months without injury. What effect, if any, the move to Kansas City will have on his fitness remains to be seen, but Johnson certainly wouldn’t hurt his cause if he knocked in a goal or two on his old home turf in Frisco.
