Kenny Cooper saves the day

After falling behind 1-0 just before halftime, Kyle Beckerman equalized quick in the second half and Kenny Cooper, who came on in the 76th minute eventually sealed the win in extra time with a penalty kick after taking a boot to the gut. So the US advances to the semis and…I still can’t get excited about this tournament.

Is it just me or do you guys feel the same way?

The most exciting part of the game was Kenny getting fouled for the penalty. I thought he was going to be disemboweled with cleats to the stomach. That would have livened up the match.

But seriously, without the 1st team (or really, even much of the 2nd team) this tournament just isn’t that great. If anything, it makes me feel more disappointed in our WC qualifying. If the scrubs can eke out wins against the other CONCACAF teams, the USMNT starters should be putting them away every game. Obviously it’s a lot harder to beat Panama IN Panama, but the junior team has less trouble with Honduras than the senior team did (both games being in the US).

Wake me up when we get to the Mexico game. Actually, the Gold Cup Mexico game (if it happens) will be okay, I’ll probably watch.

As others have alluded to…it’s hard to get excited when the people playing just aren’t that great….

I agree it is hard to watch the US with players who do not belong on international duty. I think in the past four games we know why at 32 years old Heaps has never played for the national team.

I’m just glad we won, a loss would have hurt our fifa ranking, plus we would have had to hear people talk about good Panama is.

I am thoroughly enjoying it and wish we could have Copa de Oro twice a year…but only as long as they promise to keep it on Telemundo.

Anyone else notice how ridiculous that free kick was…? Frankencooper stutter steps (or mini-trips) up to the ball, keeper goes to Frank’s left, and then he shoots it to the left, JUST past him. If I’m not mistaken the stutter is to get a read and go the OPPOSITE WAY! Not give him the keeper a better chance at it. That could have been funny.

While yes it is not fun to watch on tv, it is fun to see when your at the game. I was at the game, and it was mostly Americans there and the whole lower level was sold out. It was exciting there but would not be if I had seen it on tv.
