Klinsmann Steps Down

July 13th, 2006 | By: Daryl | 23 Comments »

Jürgen Klinsmann has stepped down as Germany coach, to be replaced by his assistant Joachim Löw.

“I feel burned out,” said a tearful Klinsmann, adding that he would take a six-month vacation. “I have a great wish to be back with my family and my children.”

That six month vacation suggests Klinsmann won’t be replacing Bruce Arena with immediate effect, but with Arena’s contract running to the end of the year it might all work out very nicely.

One scenario on the rumour mill has Klinsmann installed as head coach with Sigi Schmid as his assistant, and The Bruce “promoted” to head of youth development.

Good decision, Klinsi, considering the previous cruzification by Beckenbauer and the German media. You made the right decision.

[...] Despite the DFB’s eagerness for him to stay on through Euro 2008, Klinsmann will now head for the California sunset. Following six months of roller-blading with his family (or whatever else he has planned in California) Klinsmann won’t be short of job offers. Possibly the worst kept secret in football is the US Soccer Federation’s willingness to offer him Bruce Arena’s job. Arena’s contract expires at the end of this calendar year. Ok, Klinssmann has yet to prove his skills as coach, as a Player he showed the world how to win a world cup diving in the box against argentina, but pleas seriusly, is he the kind of coach the US needs????

Ok he is third place in this world cup that doesnt mean anything, but that his team had a good cup, the german public opinion crucified him because, he had no experience coaching really good teams and he was not concentrated with the team due to his constant travel to the US, never the less he still made Germany, third some may say. Ok, lets put it this way,

Germany has one of the best goal keepers, in lehman, and in Kahn, good defense in their lateral lamb, an awsome middle in ballack and frings, and two of the best strikers in Europe Klose and Podolski by the way Polish both. Jurgen Klinsmann didnt have nothing to do with this, he didnt mold their play, the have been playing like this since they were 10 years old he didnt show them how to move in the feild, or how to run the balls or how to put effort and heart to country more than money this is already in them. he just basiclly just lets them play and motivates them I am not saying he doesnt run plays or drills or motivates them but seriuslly US team is no German Team.
And besides that think of it for just a minute the were playing with home court advantege every game, and that is a great advantage and klinsmman had nothing to do with that. lets go back
2002 Korea had their best ever world cup presentation
1998 France Wone the world cup
1994 USA sucked the big one but ok we were an ameteur team back then
1990 Italy was third and like germany this time around had the best goal scorer in Toto Schilacchi (Salvatore)
1986 Mexico pased to the third round and they did the same in 1970
1982 Spain Pased to the third round
1978 Argentina was champion
1974 Germany was champion
1970 Mexico passed to the third round

and I could go on and on all the countries that have hosted in the past at least 36 to forty years have done well relativly in the world cup just USA has been the one who hasnt, this means that quite frankly jurgens klismmans work in germany is proof of only one thing the german team had one good tournament. also did jurgen klinsmann, nothing else, but in my opinion the next coach of the USA has to be a foreing coach, no american coach is good enough for that right now, and it should be somebody like Guus Hiddink, Vecente del Bosque, or some coach that has experience in Europe, that has experience with a process of a national team building it from top to bottom, and that can handle media and the pressure that a team like the US can generate, like in this world cup they thougt the wone respect of the world getting in to this cup, so they need a coach that can tell them to win respect you have to win a cup first.

So if you ask me NO NO NO on Klinsmann it will be giving false presumption to the people of the USA. that our team will be better just because of him, at the end we could have Fabio Cappello, Cesare maldini, Maradona and pele Together in the bench as long as our players dont start taking football as what it is, a pasion we will always be what we are now.

I think the setup with Klinsmann as head, Schmid as assistant, and Arena in charge of youth development would be the ideal situation for our national team. Klinsi and Arena are good friends, and Bruce may just have enough time to himself in the next few months to realize he is burned out and needs a change of responsibility–he has shown he is a master of developing players and that position would utilize his talents well. Arena would probably be less offended by handing off his team to a good friend like Klinsi and staying involved in some capacity than just to be ousted.

I do regret that it is impossible for the US to acquire the coaching team of Klinsmann-Loew, because their synergy was magical, but Germany will continue in success under Loew, who is the well-experienced technical guy anyway–but with a great infusion of heart from Klinsi’s time with Germany. Schmid is more knowledgeable and experienced than either, and he would be the perfect complement to a Klinsmann-Schmid-Arena leadership group for the US team.

I am hoping this speculation is confirmed in about 6 months.

In any case, I am glad that Klinsi decided to do what is best for him and his family, which is to stay right here in Newport Beach. The German media and Beckenbauer, in particular, are a fickle bunch, and I am glad Klinsi saw through the gloss of the moment to make the right decision. At the first sign of trouble, they would have thrown poor Juergen to the dogs and insisted they never really wanted him anyway…

Cheers to Klinsi!

What may be worse than not getting a good foreign coach is not getting our players over to europe. Deuce and Gooch still haven’t gotten offers from EPL? I guess USA is looked down upon after our preformance that even the few players who are worthy won’t get asked?

Gooch will in the EPL eventually: his game and size are a perfect fit. However, he will be getting Champion’s League action with Standard de Liege if he stays, so that is a bit of incentive ot not rush talks.

Deuce is still not ready for the EPL or a top league. I think he needs to go to a coca cola championship contender, and then earn promotion (Like Convey).

I like the trifecta plan. Klinsmann really did do a great coaching job, even if he was benefitted from homefield advantage. He had Germans playing an exciting, attacking football with the ball on the carpet and was not afraid to play young players (like Lamb and Podolski).

I think the US job would be perfect becase he would have a long break due to teh fact we dont have a European championship qualifier around the corner.

Here’s how i look at it: Klinsmann is quitting from Germany because he knows that his team seriously overachieved and now the bar has been raised impossibly high. Its better to leave’em wanting more then leave with a bad taste in the mouth. (Lippi also left Italy for the same reason).

Whereas now the US has more realistic expectations….

Copied from the main page post on this subject:

THIS IS OUR CHANCE! Let’s wow him and woo him and romance him and pay him a princely sum to take our US team on!! Should we start an e-mail campaign or pay a lobbyist to work on him?

I agree that deuce might be a little suspect, but I actually think he would do alright. He was the best attacking player for US, even better than Convey. He can’t cross the ball in the air though to save his life, whereas Convey service is starting to look a bit like Beckhams. Neither can play D but Dempsey is much more clinical in the box. I think he could play in the EPL for one of the teams in the middle to bottom of the league.

The premeirship has five good teams, and 3 regular teams, ok lets se
Arsenal
Manchester U
Chelsea
Liverpool
New Castle U
and
Tottenham
Blackburn
Bolton
And neither Dempsey or Onyewu have the class to play there.
By the way Onyewu is probably the Clumbsiest and slowest Center Back in this World Cup. I mean he is really bad the only thing he has is his Big Body but skill wise you got to be kidding me, its like watching Will Perdue from the old Bulls he was big thats it.

Gooch made some big mistakes, but he did a good job on Toni in the Italy game.

what game were you watching E Tucker, and i have to be honest i really am not a US fan, they were just to air headed this time around, and i thougt of this in many ways possible but there is yet to be a real good player in his position in the US team. and Onyeawu is by far one of the worst center backs this team has had he has no sense of wher he should be in the feild, he is slow, he has really no good foot work, god this guy is big, and clumbsy with the ball, ok he is a good on air balls but please, In mexico you have Marquez to make a comparison Mexico is not really an awsome team but marquez in one hell of a center back for startes his foot work is much better than Onyewu, there for he can be placed as a center back or a Defensive Middle Ok, he Knows how to treat the ball, handle and pass way better than Onyewu, he scores goals, and he is much better with his head than onyewu, ok, and they are both from the concacaf and marquez was a starter for Big team Barcelona what the hell has this big ass clubsy guy done????
So you go Kiss His ass in lullaby land while i sit hear with my crack pipe in troll land puting the truth out there althoug it hurts people like you… E Tucker

Ceaser, I think you should try reading what you type before you hit the submit button. That way it might actually be somewhat coherent and not contain 8,000 spelling and grammer errors. Then again, I guess you are just pissed off and maybe this deprives you of your normal motor skills. Anyhow, it’s very funny that you should mention Mexico and question whether ETucker has watched the US in the same posting. That clearly means, either you have not watched the US barring maybe the WC or you have no memory. As I clearly remember, Gooch shut down Borgetti like a champ. Dude was clearly frustated. They show a replay of that that stare Gooch gave him like every freakin US game, come on now. Secondly, he also did shut down Luca Toni, who is one of the better strikers in the world evidenced by the fact that he was the highest scoring striker in Serie A, a league that is extremely good defensively. Thirdly, if he is so slow and dumb why is it that Ghana the fastest team in the WC couldn’t exploit that? Both of the goals they scored were gifts, one by Reyna and the other by the Ref. He had ONE BAD GAME. So did the whole freakin team against Czech Republic. He also is very young, so his upside is huge. I agree that he needs more experience to be a better player because his physical talents are definitly there. Once he gets a little older, he will be quite a good centerback for sure.

WHo the hell is talking about borguetti and i excuse my self of my gramatical and my spelling errors, but i can only say deal with it, I know at least you are reading, ok, he shut borguetti like a champ so what, i was just comparing to center barcks that play in the same confederation, and making a point of which most US soccor fans dont seem to understand, ok, Onyewu is not all that and a bag of chips, my God he is probably the worst defender in our national team, Bocanegra has more class than him and arena knows that but he stook with him for the same reasons you people do, but ok, the US starts over again, and depending on whether the qualify or not to the next one you will remember Onyewu four years later being the same he is, so good for him he shut out borguetti, ok, and you mean to tell me that the goal in set peices of gillardino had nothing to do with his slow reaction, or the penalty he commited on that play it wasnt him and get over it , you seem to forget that the calls are made by the ref. not by you, or in this case by anybody else, so, like I said before if you think Onyewu is a Good Player, ok, So is all the american Team but remember the lessons this world cup leaves you, and if not just keep up rooting for loosers.

Like I said, absolutely no coherency, not just in mechanics, but thought. My point was that he shuts down some quality strikers so he is not bad. The worst defender this year for US was definitly Eddie Pope, that’s an easy call. He was the one at fault for the Italy goal!! It was Pope’s man that he was marking that he let go, trying to play an offsides trap when he wasn’t suppose to. That’s a bad play from a veteran. And the penalty called against Gooch was Bocenagra’s fault! Were YOU watching? The correct play to make in his position was kick it out of bounce, instead he sends it in the penalty area like a doofus, and Gooch makes a CLEAN good clearance. The ref calls a penalty because quite frankly the refs sucked this WC. That same ref called the penalty against Italy in the final, which also wasn’t a penalty and everyone knows that both of those weren’t legit penalties. You can’t blame a player for a bad call! No one claimed Gooch was the best centerback in the entire world, but his interest from Man Utd and Chelsea show that he’s not NEARLY as bad as you think in your little world.

Barbar, the integration between whites and non-whites in the USA (at least in So Cal where I live) is much better than you think. I would not worry about that. Also, I read Klinsi is now learning Spanish. I am sure that does not serve the purpose of being able to communicate with the housekeeper. The challenge, I believe, is finding the right players in a country the size of USA.

Cesar:

I like Bocanegra a lot, and the EPL has certainly seasoned him. However, for all intents and purposes, he is just as slow as Gooch and half the size.

I’m sorry Gooch isn’t as good as Marquez, but Donovan isn’t as good as Ronaldinho or Zidane either. Comparing US players to the VERY TOP players and sayin they suck is easy. However, they are still good players.

This World Cup they underperformed, but they were also in the toughest group of the tournament and were still two posts and a dubious penalty from advancing. They did go toe-to-toe with the World Champs despite being down a man….

Here’s hoping my fellow Orange Countyian (like Jurgen I too live in Orange County, California where Huntington Beach is) will agree to take over the US Side.

Look I know it’s a big step down going from coaching mighty Deutschland with it’s 3 World Cups to the USA where futbol (or soccer as it’s known here) is a secondary sport at best.

But look on the bright side. 1.You won’t have a grumpy old fart like Beckenbaur on your case all the time.
2. You will be given free reign to do as you see fit.
3. The players will be in awe of you so no discipline problems.
3. And, the expectations aren’t that high to begin with so if you make it out of the first round in 2010, you are a hero!

I hope his US born kids can twist his arm and he’ll decide to take the job.

Heck, maybe even Herr Governer, Arnold Schwarzeneger will twist (or break) his arm!
