Landon Donovan is Getting Itchy

July 23rd, 2008 | By: Carter Daly | 1 Comment »

…and it’s not all from egsema and mosquito bites. Addressing the rumors of him giving Europe another try:

Competitively I have that itch to go test it,” Donovan said of moving to Europe. “And now, as opposed to when I was younger, I feel like I’m ready. Physically I’m ready, mentally, psychologically I’m ready. I know I could handle it, so now I’m having that itch to go try it again.

Thats what I like to hear. Anyone who has been watching the most recent evolution of Donovan since his belly flop in the 2006 World Cup knows that he is a completley different kind of animal thanks to his experience. No more does the moniker “Landycakes” apply. LD is downright ferocious every single night he takes the pitch. He has been on a tear from all angles of the field this year; creating, running at defenders, finishing in the box, making plays, and verbally berating defenders sprawled out on the turf after he does it. Clearly he is getting quite itchy.

Reading the articles speculating on Landon’s words this week leads one to believe that he would like to play pretty much anywhere besides his personal hell of Germany. Fine by me. He’s got the game, it’s just a question of whether he truly has the burning desire to make a move across the pond. To me, an itch doesn’t equate to that. At least not yet. Call me when he breaks out in proverbial hives or something.
