Nedved To Retire Before World Cup?
According to SI.com’s Truth & Rumours section, Czech Republic’s Pavel Nedved could take his final bow (or should that be dive?) before the World Cup.
Here’s what they say:
According to Italian reports, Czech Republic star Pavel Nedved will hang up his boots at the end of this season — before the World Cup. The Juventus midfielder confided to some friends that at the end of the season he will retire and he will almost surely not take part to [sic] the World Cup.
Please. Be. True.

Didn’t he retire from the national team after Euro 2004, then come back for World Cup qualifiers? Seems pointless to take part in the lead up to the World Cup, and then retire before the main event…I’m highly skeptical.

Nedved retires about as often as Michael Jordan, so I wouldn’t really hold my breath on it. However, even if he does retire, the Czech bench is deep. Take a look at Rudi Skacel, contender for player of the year in Scotland, Milan Baros of Aston Villa, and Tomas Rosicky. They’re not going to be hurting if Mr. Floppy Hair decides to hang up his boots.

True, but as Wendy points out they’ve got plenty other big dogs.
I just think it would be a good psychological blow to the Czech Republic if Nedved were to quit.

I can´t imagine why he would do this. It would be his one and only World Cup.
