Onyewu In England Right Now?

According to SkySports.com, Oguchi Onyewu is “understood to be on Teesside discussing his proposed move to Middlesbrough.”

Boro have just appointed Gareth Southgate as manager (despite his lack of coaching badges, but that’s another story) and it seems Southgate is keen to get this deal done. But could Onyewu really have left the US camp to negotiate a contract and have a medical?

You could argue that it’s better to get everything tied up before the World Cup starts, but it’s equally true that this is a major distraction from World Cup preparation.

while it’s not conclusive, Onyewu is clearly absent from this picture taken of the rest of the team.

I don’t think its a big deal. The team had the day off and Gooch good easily make the flight to England and back in the day, its less than a 2 hour flight… Plus, Keller and Hahnemann went to a Tool concert Tuesday night…

“The giant centre back has left his preparations for the World Cup finals to talk terms with Boro over a move from Standard Liege.”

Two words:

No. Way.

End of story.

Rick is right.

There is no way that Gooch would have left training to deal with this – unless it was to sign the contract; in which case, the papers would have been brought to him.

I’ve done a bit of digging and it could be true. There was no training on Wednesday, and the players were at Hamburg’s City Hall for a ceremony.

According to the reliable Ives Galarcep, Onyewu was the only player absent.

Well, then I say a deal’s been done.

Then, I say he must have signed.
