Picking The 23: Goalkeepers

March 28th, 2006 | By: Daryl | 16 Comments »

Bruce’s final deadline for picking the 23 is May 15th, so let’s send him a little help from World Cup Blog.

One position at a time we’re going to pick a final roster between us. To make things easy we’re going with:

3 Goalkeepers
8 Defenders
8 Mids
4 Forwards

We’re going to start with keepers, which should be easy. Leave a comment to nominate a keeper.

UPDATE: Kasey Keller, Marcus Hahnemann and Tim Howard have been selected as the 3 keepers, and all in less than ten minutes (though Howard’s getting some stick for his lack of playing time). I’m guessing the defenders will be a little harder to choose…

I don’t think there’s any suspense about the 3 GK: Keller, Howard, and Hannemann. Really, the only question here is who is the #2 GK?

Unless anyone has any objections we’ll go with the expected trio of Keller/Howard/Hahnemann.

Aside from who is #2 (I say Hahnemann as he’s in great form while Howard has an ass full of splinters) the only other question is who comes in if one of these 3 gets injured?

Matt Reis. He seemed to have a great season last year.

Is there any support for eric’s proposal to drop Tim Howard for Matt Reis? If it gets enough support it happens.

I’d still take Howard over Reis, despite his lack of playing time.
