Player Ratings versus Germany
As always, player ratings are up for debate.
Kasey Keller: 6 -can’t really be blamed for any of the goals.
Steve Cherundolo: 7 -full of running as usual. his goal from 75 yards out wasn’t as good as it sounds.
Cory Gibbs: 8 -looked really strong, even playing out of position, and was missed after he subbed out. probably played himself into the final 23.
Jimmy Conrad: 5 -looked really indecisive. i wouldn’t back him against the Italians or Czechs. Or the Ghanaians.
Gregg Berhalter: 5 -should have taken charge of the defence. didn’t.
Kerry Zavagnin: 6 -tried hard but just lacks that extra bit of class.
Pablo Mastroeni: 7 -showed Zavagnin how it should be done with some nice touches but still couldn’t dictate the game.
Bobby Convey: 8 -ran at players, cut inside from the left and managed to penetrate the German defence.
Josh Wolff: 6 -will take six things from his 17 minutes on the field. one concussion and five stitches.
Eddie Johnson: 7 -touch still let him down but he did better than against Poland. nearly equalized with a great header, only denied by a top save from Kahn. got some revenge when he tripped and fell into Kahn, allowing Cherundolo to score.
Brian Ching: 6 -had one shot, held up the ball here and there but never looked like a threat.
Subs:
Chris Klein: 6 -tried hard but never looked like making a breakthrough. there’s a difference between Guatemala and Germany.
Ben Olsen: 6 -see Kerry Zavagnin.
Taylor Twellman: 6 -interesting stretches during the warm up, but only played 30 minuntes during which we were mostly defending (badly). the lack of minutes indicates he’ll make the roster anyway.
Heath Pearce: 6 -didn’t have time to make an impression.
