Reyna Fit
Angola say he’s looking good, the US will neither confirm or deny his existence, but the man himself says he’s healthy.
Claudio Reyna has declared himself fit to play against the Czech Republic, saying “everything has really gone to plan, which is nice. Now it’s just full steam ahead.”
Good news obviously, but here’s something to ponder: Does Reyna playing diminish Landon Donovan’s potential to dominate a game? And though Reyna still has the skills, does he have the legs (or specifically the hamstrings) to contribute to an effective pressing game?

It’s great he’s healthy. I think Donovan did fine the last WC that he played getting some through balls from Claudio so no problems there either. His leadership and toughness under fire is really needed especially with this wicked draw.

I don’t think Donovan is in the same league as Reyna. I’d much rather have Reyna on the field than have Donovan dominating our play.

On the opponents side, reports today say Guttuso is out for Italy’s first two matches.
How does that change the Italian midfield?

I am not so sure that the U.S. doesn’t play a better game when Donovan is dominating play from the central midfield. Claudio is a great player and needs to be on the field but perhaps it’s time to push him out wide.
