Rossi May Reconsider The Land Of Opportunity

Following Giuseppe Rossi’s two goals and Man Of The Match award in Man. Utd’s 5-0 F.A. Cup win over Burton, The Guardian are speculating that the talented 18 year old forward may reconsider representing America.
Born in Clifton, New Jersey to Italian parents Rossi had previously expressed his desire to play for Italy over the Stars and Stripes. He left Clifton for Parma at the tender age of 13, and regularly represented the Azzuri youth teams. However, since moving to Manchester the traditionally insular Italian authorities have ignored the young forward, which The Guardian believe may help change his mind about the USA.
If, as The Guardian suggest, Arena plans to use Rossi in one of the upcoming friendlies then the coach is leaving it a bit late. It also transpires that Arena “enquired” about the players availability for the November 2005 friendly against Scotland, though it’s unclear whether the player rejected Arena’s request, Sir Alex Ferguson refused the request, or Arena decided not to follow through.
Even more mysterious; if you read The Guardian article the story is interrupted by a non-sequitar about the rodent problem at Old Trafford, before just as suddenly returning to the subject of Rossi.

Interesting development and good to see that Bruce Arena is all over this. Rossi should seriously consider playing for the US. There are a logjam of forwards in Italy and he might never play for them. He probably could at least earn a spot on the US roster this year. I’d take him ahead of Twellman or Conor.

I wish the kid a great career and all, but I don’t want him on the US team as his second choice. His heart wouldn’t truly be in it.

I would like to see Rossi on the US squad, even if it’s his 2nd choice. Rossi’s level of play may raise others on the US squad and hopefully even surpass Rossi. The US needs players that excel in European leagues! I see a bunch of US players in the English Premiere but aren’t excelling. They hold their own but I want to see an international US-born and raised soccer star! Rossi could be the first.
