Great stuff from SI! I really like Wahl and always enjoy reading his stuff. I remember a few years ago he was travelling (maybe in Minnesota) and hoping to find a place where he could watch a US game that was being televised. So he posted on bigsoccer and was invited into a fan's house for a viewing party. As I recall, he mentioned it in one of his online pieces.

He does have one factual error in his article on the 1999 U17s, where he states that their fourth place finish was the highest a US men's team has ever placed. He's overlooking the 2000 Olympics, where we won a bronze medal. Does anyone know if there's a way of emailing him just to let him know about the error?

Thanks for the links daryl.

I too read the ESPN the Magazine WC stuff at an airport over the weekend. It's interesting that they put DMB on the cover instead of Donovan; at least they were thinking for themselves there. The writing was somewhat intelligent (if only Dave O'Brien had an equivalent level of knowledge). But there wasn't much in there, if anything, that we don't already know. So save your money on that one, guys.

Mark - Actually I bought the ESPN magazine from a local airport stand this very morning.

You can check out the cover by <a href="http://insider.espn.go.com/insider/magazine/index" rel="nofollow">clicking here</a> or going to this URL:
http://insider.espn.go.com/insider/magazine/index

Its got 15 solid pages of coverage dedicated to 'futbol'. The articles themselves IMO arent that great but lots of coverage nonetheless.

Cajun - I gotta say ... I really like Grant Wahl. His online article on SI that we discussed on this USA blog a while ago was the single best article I've read related to US soccer.

I doubt that you guys havent read it already but here is the link again:

Good stuff. Wish we could see that kind of insight from ESPN. But alas, the "World-wide leader in Sports" isn't yet aware of the world-wide most popular sport.
