Summer Madness: Over.

September 1st, 2008 | By: Brooks Peck | 1 Comment »

The summer transfer window has come to a close and there are two things of note from our perspective here at the Team USA blog:

1) I now have a psychotic healthy hatred against Man City for stealing Robinho from Chelsea.

2) Michael Bradley has a new club!

Of course, Bradley ended up going to exactly none of the clubs who were rumored to be after his services last week. Instead, as Ives Galarcep reported yesterday, he has joined newly-promoted Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach (attempting to pronounce that caused me to choke and black out for about three hours) for an undisclosed fee.

While it’s nice to see Bradley move from the Eredivisie to a higher profile league like the Bundesliga and join a side where he will almost certainly see plenty of minutes, I can’t help but feel a little disappointed that he didn’t end up at a bigger club. I mean, Borussia Monchengladbach has toiled in the bottom half of the table since the mid 90’s and the possibility of a return to 2. Bundesliga (which would be their third trip down in a decade) is very real. Then again, if all goes well this season, maybe we will again be discussing Michael Bradley transfer rumors come next summer.

So, yeah, there you go. Let’s just hope Bradley doesn’t question The Great German Vacation of 1939-1945 while touring his new place of residency.

Should be interesting to see if Michael can continue his club scoring ways or if he’ll continue his national team roll as a defensive midfielder. Maybe another season of 10+ club team goals will make his father realize he is more beneficial to the team as a scorer.
