The Positive Post

June 13th, 2006 | By: Daryl | 84 Comments »

There is plenty to be negative about following the Czech result, and given the performance negativity seems the only sane response. We all know how bad the situation is in Group E now.

But, as an experiment, this post is reserved for positive comments only. Concentrate hard on the smiley faces and see if anything comes to you. If nothing comes then don’t worry, it just means you’re rational, but please don’t leave a comment.

The plan is to see how many, if any, positive things can be gleaned from Monday’s result.

How’s this for positive? Spain up 4-0 on Ukraine! We’re no longer the crappiest side in the Cup!

Hey, gotta take comfort where you can get it…

BIn Laden-

very convincing win for England against Paraguay. Have fun losing in the quarters because all your strikers are injured and your coach is a MORON.

I wonder how many snotty comments European posters to this site will be making about the Ukraine being “shite” and “not belonging in the World Cup.” It would be awkward for them to make such comments, I suppose, since the Ukraine finished qualifying at the top of their (European) group.

Calm down guys, he’s just mad cuz he lives in crappy ol England. I’d be anal about everything and go into forums to make trouble if I havn’t seen the sun in years, my teeth look like a pile of shit, and my women are more pale than my albino body.

It’s sad how soccer is what makes your lives worth living, grow up! =)

We have tropical paradises (Hawaii, Florida Keys). We have big ass mountains (The Rockies). We have plenty of farmland (The midwest). We have cold weather (The north). We have warm weather (The south). We’re can swim in TWO oceans.

Positive, you say? Sure!

The fact that the US is now blatantly aware that it sucks playing the most popular sport in the world and that they should stick with baseball.

1. DB won’t be playing vs Italy and if he does get back on the field he might have been given a wake-up call.

2. Eddie will get a bunch of minutes; that’s exciting!

3. Maybe they’ll finally get out there and show us how much better their conditioning is. Everyone says it’s the best of any country, but we’ve not been given a glimpse yet.

Thanks, Gaucho. How’s Bolivia doing in this year’s World Cup? Oh, wait, Bolivia finished dead last in the South American group.

Maybe you should wait until you’re better than Venezuela and Peru before you start mocking teams that did qualify. Or at least until you guys crack the FIFA 100.

Gaucho-

does Bolivia have ANYTHING going for it? I just had a men’s league game against a team consisting of Bolivian immigrants…and they sucked.

Where is the Bolivia blog so we can post comments about your team’s games? I’m having trouble finding it…

The States don’t have thj passion for the game that they rest of the world (excluding Canada) does and that they should stick with something their good at.

J Klinsmann, who will win this year’s championship, will coach the US national team in four years. Easier commute.

If Klinsmann will win this year championship with this young team, there’s no way that the German soccer federation will let him go away: they will keep him for sure

I am sitiing hear watching the England-v-T&T game. Several times the announcers have compared Englands lack-luster performance to that of the USA on Monday. The main differance England is playing Trinidad and Tobago. The US played the Chec Republic. That has to be positive.

I love T&T…
… and to Zero… Klinsmann will be too “old” to commute from California to Germany…

I think going back to being the “underdog” does work well for us. My theory is that the lack of football worship here means that our guys aren’t tested for that kind of pressure all this pre-WC hype brought. Donovan is clearly talented but you can just tell he’s not the kinda guy who wants to step up when he sees 10 stories tall banners of himself unfurled in Times Square… “Soccer” is still a sport for preppies and immigrants (unfortunately most of the really good ones don’t come:)here, so we need more time before futbol becomes bling.
I just heard today that in an Italian press conference only one (azzurri) player could name a single player on the US squad… I think that’s a good sign.
Bruce is the one who scouted Italy, so we’ll know for sure if he’s done his job or not when it’s over. I’m not sure what I make of him… I thought the friendlies we played in the runup (besides Germany, and we were missing a lot of starters) were poor choices and that the game against Czech is the beating we should’ve taken before the tournament began. CONCACAF isn’t a good testing ground (as Mexico’s Lavolpe clearly knew) and Morocco, Jamaica, Venezuela, etc. were never going to prepare us for Czech’s physical game…
DMB looks like he needs to be reintroduced to the soccerball, but I was shocked to hear Arena criticize him publicly… The goofy asst. coach (Mooch) seems pretty affable, maybe he and Frankie Hejduk can get everyone to hold hands and be happy.

The big positive out of this: any fledgling interest in soccer in the U.S. will tank as soon as word of this loss spreads. Soccer blows.

I would just like to reiterate that Bolivia sucks at everything.

Any MLS team could easily defeat “the Strongest,” which is a misnomer of a name if ever there was one!

Is this still open?

Just want to say a nice cheerio to Bruce Arena and to let him know that Australia is still in the World Cup.

You boys back home yet?

Do we Aussies care what he said about us? Just ask the team. They were begging to have the US in our group (Of course, that was just so we’d have a certain win up our sleeves).

Go back to the games where you can call yourselves automatic world champions.

Probably won’t pick the right flag fom my IP but I can assure you that I am a 100%, football-loving AUSTRALIAN.
