This Is Getting Embarrassing…
Q: What does a 4-1 defeat to Germany and a 1-1 draw at home to Jamaica’s youth team do to your FIFA world ranking?
A: You move up a place, obviously.
That’s right folks, according to our friends at FIFA, USA are now the 4th best team in the world.

Your title sums it up there, Daryl. If the United States wins a game we’ll be in second place in the ranking, possibly one and a half place a whole new ranking position. Of course we can’t supercede the Brazilians they have that musical ability thing going where they play music to stay loose before games. There’s a bit of commentary on this over at the Portugese site that quite tickles the funnybone.

Let me try another word – ridiculous. I wish we would have dropped off, to put expectations more in line with our chances. We are now ranked above such lowly sides as England, Argentina, Spain, Germany, and France.
This makes it easy for our uneducated soccer press to decry a flop if we lose a WC match.

My son and I discussed the expectations aspect and the tragedy is that for someone new to soccer or uninformed about the true potential of the US squad watches and sees a possible bounce out quick and becomes disenchanted. Not a positive for the game in the US.
