Transfer Hot Stove: Parkhurst to Norway, Offers Coming for Wynne and Kljestean?
Welcome again to this ever-revolving merry-go-round of transfer rumors that I now write in this thing called the Hot Stove.
Today we chronicle three of our younger MLS yanks who look primed to move abroad in the coming January transfer window.
One of them, according to this report, is all ready to be signed sealed and delivered to Denmark. Former New England revolution defender Michael Parkhurst will be officially making his rumored move to Danish club FC Nordsjaelland. The 24 year old will apparently officially sign his contract sometime this or next week.
Not to sure how I feel about this one. Parkhurst is and has clearly been on Bob Bradley’s radar over the past few years, earning caps here and there, but he is in no way leading the pack of defenders pushing for a spot for South Africa 2010. I’m not quite positive that moving to Norway is the way to do that. Prominent MLS players, such that Parkhurst has become, can often run into a bit of trouble when accepting a deal to play in an outer European league. A few false moves and he could find himself banished to the bench in Norway; not somewhere any young soccer player pushing for caps wants to be. Yet, if this works out and he goes on to show well in Norway, it will only work to boost him that much more in the eyes of Bob Bradley. In player selection process, we have learned that Europe usually always trumps MLS. And if not he will probably just end up back in the US in a couple years.
Usually when watching any given soccer match, there aren’t many things guaranteed to the viewer. One of those things that can be guaranteed when Marvel Wynne is playing, though, is that he will be the fastest player on the field.
Say what you will about Wynne’s touch, crossing ability, or distribution out of the back, his pure speed is undeniable. And oh yeah, all those other things seem to be coming along nicely as well.
The rumor surfacing, all be it from a somewhat unknown site, is that Italian Serie A side Torino may be looking into a possible move for the current Toronto FC right back Wynne. Can you say dream move? It almost seems too good to be true, and that’s why it probably is. Serie A? For Wynne? Really?
On the more realistic side, the team that could really be in for Wynne is FC Groningen of the Dutch Eredivisie. That is the rumor that has been circulating for a couple weeks and seems much more likely. USA fans always have a special place in their hearts for the idea of player development in the Dutch leagues, and in this case it flies for me too. First division, check. Player development, check. Playing time, probably check. Looks good from here.
The Nat we check in on is the resident broski himself, Sacha Kljestan. In a rumor dating back to the last transfer window, Dutch side FC Twente, headed by former England boss Steve McClaren, is taking a good hard look at Sacha. Not much information has come out, but a bid is to be expected in January. I see this as a picture perfect scenario for Sacha to develop in. Over the past year he has been making his push into the full Nat’s picture and with uncertainty in the midfield from struggling Yanks Abroad, a move to the Dutch league is exactly what he needs to solidify his 2010 chances. The Dutch league plays some pretty attractive football, and the one thing we all know Sacha needs to work on is cutting down his turnovers. While this would be a dream move for Sacha, MLS could be looking for a fairly hefty transfer fee to compensate Chivas USA. Hate to say it, but it could be a major road block. Hopefully not.
Thoughts on any of the Hot Stove happenings?

Correction: I’m not too familiar with the Danish Superliga… but wouldn’t Parkhurst’s move to FC Nordsjælland mean that he was playing in Denmark, not Norway?
