USA 0-0 Canada, Adu Makes Debut
“Goose eggs on the scoreboard” was how the San Diego radio commentary summed up this surprisingly even contest. Reis was solid enough in goal, Adu got his first cap, Rolfe got a second cap and Pearce did OK at left back, but no one really shone.
Eddie Johnson made a welcome return to action, coming on for Taylor Twellman in the 56th minute. Then he made a less welcome injury forced exit in the 83rd minute. We’ll have to wait and see the extent of the damage.
Johnson was replced by Freddy Adu, who became the youngest ever US international at 16 years and 234 days old. With his first touch he went around Canadian defender Braz in the penalty box, there was apparently some contact and Adu went down. Penalty? No, but a first international booking for Freddy Adu (for simulation).
Nothing to be too down about all in all. The MLS line up (Pearce excepted) hadn’t seen action for a while so it was inevitable they wouldn’t be too sharp. And Adu finally getting on the field will do his confidence no harm.
Bring on Norway.

The big story will be Adu’s appearence, but the real story is Johnson’s injury. If he continues at this rate he might be the next John O’Brien - very talented and effective, but rarely available to play.
