USA beats Brazil
That’s really all that needs to be said to garner attention. I don’t care if we are talking a U-10 American girl’s rec. side beating one from Brazil; that is still impressive. But we are talking the U-20 World Cup here, a tremendous achievement.
First and foremost I must say that in level of excitement this was right up there with the Gold Cup final. This fixture was one of the most exciting football matches I have ever viewed. The flowing attacking pace of the game was astonishing. The Americans matched the Samba Boys trick for trick; who would ever expect that?
Throughout the whole match, Freddy Adu and Jozy Altidore seemed to be on some osmosis type stuff. They read each other perfectly and eventually it sparked two goals.
There were plenty of nervous moments, but the Yank’s backline held up well and made timely tackle after timely tackle. Not enough can be said of Chris Seitz, who it seemed could not take a breather all night. He responded to each Brazilian rip with a solid stone wall.
What a team effort.
The catalyst was once again Freddy Adu, who individually outshined every counterpart on the pitch (including the world famous Pato) with his tremendous ball control and wizardry. The thing that will impress allot was his tenacity in defense. He chased down the ball tirelessly, leading to Jozy’s first thumping finish. How about that move in the corner to set up Jozy for the winner? Unreal. Freddy is now making believers out of everyone. I am starting to think not only will he earn his big euro transfer but he just might be able to do some big things over there if he continues on like this.
This is one of those games that will be talked about for a very long time. Let’s just hope there can be more like this as the tournament trucks along and suddenly the boys are looking like they can make a little more history.

That was one of the most amazing games I’ve ever seen. The USA was magical.
I’ve never been a huge fan of US-style soccer, but these guys were incredible. Their knowledge of what was going on elsewhere on the field and where their teammates were was close to telepathic. And it wasn’t just knowing where to send the ball, it was actually getting it there.
The future may not be as far away as we all thought.

A legend begins, now. What it changes from the other USA team, i have seen is that they were happy to play. More important than the result(despite a victory against Brazil is always something), their generosity was impressive. USA have found a football style, their football style.

Carter,
I know I have disagreed with you on another on this blog but on this one, I am with you shoulder to shoulder.
I just saw the highlights on Gol TV Freddy Adu’s tricks at the corner where he assisted his teammate score the second goal.
It was magical.
I was shocked that Brazil lost to the U.S.
Duri\ng the next World cup, these guys will be candidates for their respective national teams and right now, Brazil is playing a crappy game and their juniors are no better.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I respect the u.S. and they deserved the win. All I am say8ng is that for a country like Brazil to wait for the outcome of the matches of other countries in order to qualify for the second round is not very positive.
USA will be a team to reckon with in South AFrica.
WAtch!!

Apologies,
I meant to say ‘I know I have disagreed with you on this blog…’
Please ignore the gibberish. I haven’t had my four o’clock tea yet.

Oh, P.S. You can delete that second comment, and then this one. When I type on the laptop and tap the pad more than once before the comment posts, it posts twice. My bad.

I agree with what is being said above. Though Altidore scored both goals, it was Adu that did all of the hard work. The first goal was a great finish by Jose, the second was a tap in that I could have made (though Jose did make a great run). Freddie Adu did some great things on both goals to get the ball to Jose. The goas aside, Freddie made great passes through out the game. His vision was spot on. I just hope, though, that the win over Brazil is not the tournement highlight. Going into the round of 16 the going now gets harder. The teams are motovated and the result is final, win or go home. The mental grind from here on out is what seperates the winners form the loosers. All of the teams are talented at this level, it depends on who can stay in the game mentally.

To Dave:
“the second [goal] was a tap in that I could have made…”
Fine. But…
Was it easy enough that DaMarcus Beasley have made it?
