The USA have moved up to fifth in the latest FIFA World Rankings, our highest ever position. Aided by the recent win over Poland, we broke out of the three way tie with Spain and Mexico for sixth place.

This sounds more like a curse. If we could have only dropped instead of being ranked higher. Now if we do not get to the quarter finals or semi’s it should be a failure.

man eric thats dumb. i look at this and say that FIFA finally is giving the respect that the USA deserves. No curses man. I aint afraid of Italy, I aint afraid of Czech Republic, i think we can beat any team, im not saying we’re going to be champions, but yeah, if the USA doesn’t get into the quarter finals at least, i will be shocked.

Quarterfinals? That would most likely mean beating Brazil. I would be shocked if we *DID* make it to the Quarters…

yeah quarterfinals. why should i be afraid of a fat Ronaldo? or a grand-pa like cafú, or a dissapearing act like Adriano? yeah, i know ronaldinho is the best in the world, and i’m a big barça fan, but i don’t see why the USA wouldn’t be trouble for brazil. I know brazil is #1 in the world and all, and i hope we don’t have to play brazil in the 2nd round, but if we do, then I think we have a good chance, and i will cheer my country on until the end.

While i’m proud that the US is ranked so highly, I think it shows more of a flaw in the rankings than it does the true quality of the US MNT. We are a top-10 or top-12 team, not a top-5 team. This World Cup gives the US MNT an opportunity to prove me wrong. I hope they do.
