USA U20s vs. Germany U20s (0 – 3) Post-Game Thoughts

September 26th, 2009 | By: Marlon | 3 Comments »

Well, that wasn’t pretty at all.

Aside from a few bright spots from the forwards and midfielders the USA was completely dominated by Germany today. Even before the penalty was given up the Germans looked most likely to score. Brek Shea’s haircut had a few nice runs down the left, but overall the American performance deserved the 3 – 0 result.

Opara seemed our only semi-competent defender. Thomas Rongen will definitely have to shake some stuff up at the back if we are to advance from the group stage. Disagree with me if you think I’m wrong, but I think 4 – 3 – 3 is a terrible formation for American soccer. It never seems to suit us well.

That’s all for now. I don’t want to dwell on this one all too much.

Awful. Worst performance I have ever seen from any US team ever. Agoos would’ve been proud of that group…NO GOOS>>>NOO!!!! That is what you would say whenever he touched the ball…lol

I watched 20 minutes. Not one central middy who had a touch and could turn and even try and burn ppl. Awful…

70% players fault, 30% Rongen’s fault for using a 433 which essentially gives no defenders and outlet…but the players were awful.

I could field a better U-20 team by scouring all of the major cities in the US and sending them to a camp for 6 months…Give me 2 years to find players throughout all the cities and surrounding areas (there will be a much bigger latin american contignent to the team) and 1 year to get them trained and working together. The team would beat the U-20 team the US has now…I could be wrong but I would like to see someone do that. If I were a billionaire I would do something like that.

I’ve said this to Brooks in passing a number of times, but I actually think the USA U17s could beat the U20s.

It really was awful to even attempt to watch. I was switching between it and the EPL game that was on at the same time. But I realized after the penalty we gave up in the 1st half that I was no longer switching back. As unbelievable put it, they were really just bad. No other way to put it.

Oh, and yeah Marlon I agree…I think the U17s could beat the U20s.
