Thursday News Nuggets

The damage was done. The Olympics are over. Everyone has said their piece. Time to move on.
And if you look just a tad into the future, what is that you see? Yes, it’s a World Cup Qualifying match against Guatemala on the 20th. The quick turnaround is needed. But we’ll get to the qualifying talk a little later. For now, it’s time for some news nuggets. Mmmm, tasty.
- Word from Ives is that recent Olympian Benny Feilhaber finally looks interested in a move back to the homeland to play in MLS, most likely for the New England Revolution. This comes after Benny boy was linked with a move to Danish side AGF Aarhus. I think the move back to the states could do this boy some good, as well as help him get back into the national team with more regularity after he fell off the face of the Earth there for a little bit.
- In more past/present/future USMNT player club movement news, Corey Gibbs, still only 28 years old, has come home to MLS to suit up with the Colorado Rapids. Also, the ageless Eddie Lewis is currently angling for his move to the train wreck that is the LA Galaxy. The deal is pretty much complete, but the Galaxy now find themselves trying to deal El Pescadito, Carlos Ruiz, to free up some cap space for Lewis.
- On top of the already ridiculous fiasco going down in Carson, Cali, what’s left of the brass up there, for some incomprehensible reason, wants to make Peter Nowack, yes the same Nowack who just drove the most talented group of American Olympic youngsters this country has ever seen into the ground, their brand spankin’ new head coach. Can the USSF somehow finagle this into some kind of exchange program where in return for Nowack “going” to the Galaxy, US Soccer gets to have Ruud Gullit at their disposal in any form that they wish. Say what you want about his success in the MLS with all of their rules that they pick out of a hat or whatever, but he did have that team in the best shape it could possibly be in and I think he would work well on the international level.
