Thursday Night News Nuggets

We haven’t done one of these in a while, so I figured we should break out the assortment of dipping sauces (including fancy sauce) and go nuts.
-Freddy Adu says his dream is to play in the Premier League (or just play anywhere at all…I think he forgets what the pitch looks like at this point) and, more specifically for Tottenham, as that was the club he supported as a small boy (er, smaller boy).
-Voting for USSoccer.com’s Athlete of the Year Awards ends on December 8th. On the men’s side the nominees are as follows:
U.S. Soccer Male Athlete of the Year Candidates
Carlos Bocanegra, Defender
Michael Bradley, Midfielder
Clint Dempsey, Midfielder
Landon Donovan, Midfielder/Forward
Tim Howard, Goalkeeeper
Oguchi Onyewu, Defender
U.S. Soccer Young Male Athlete of the Year Candidates
Maurice Edu, Midfielder/Defender
Stuart Holden, Midfielder
Sacha Kljestan, Midfielder
Michael Orozco, Defender
Robbie Rogers, Midfielder
Marvell Wynne, Defender
Personally, I think I would go with Tim Howard and Sacha Kljestan, but there are a few deserving candidates in each group there.
-Oguchi Onyewu helped Standard Liege down Sampdoria in the UEFA Cup yesterday, scoring the second goal in their 3-0 win. Yay for Gooch.
Here’s a poorly framed fan view of his goal:

If you scream like that, no ones going to be your girl.

Well, in his defense, he momentarily thought he was being stabbed to death by the person next to him. But then he realized, “No, Gooch just scored a goal. And hey, my friend is holding a tray of nachos, and not a samurai sword like I previously thought. Go figure.”

For some reason Freddy playing Tottenham doesn’t sound absolutely crazy to me.

why is Michael Orozco nominated…didn’t he do something stupid and force our olympic team to play almost an entire game with 10 men?

Interesting thing I came across. Rivers Cuomo of weezer just put a song out about the US Soccer team on his “Alone II: Home Recordings” album.
“My Day is Coming”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OC5DboOapUE
LMAO starting at 2:30 of the recording.
“Steve Cher-un-do-lo…. let me hear you say…. ”
Gotta think it’s a little dated given that there’s a Bobby Convey and Eddie Johnson reference.

Rivers starts naming players at 3:30. Cool song, thanks Nick.

Sorry, it actually starts at 3:20… Has anyone (famous) ever written a song about the U.S national team before? Is this going to become our anthem now?!

Thanks for the correction, George.
As far as whether this song could stick, I’d like to hear where a remixed version would go from what I think would be considered a demo. Maybe he could quicken the pace and layer in instruments and other voices.
It would be interesting if someone approached Rivers about it. I know he’s a huge US soccer fan and has been at the last few World Cups following the team.
