The ‘Du Boys Give Their Political Support

October 30th, 2008 | By: Brooks Peck | 6 Comments »

Alright, I really don’t want to get too into politics on a soccer blog, but it’s been slow on the US MNT news front (meanwhile, things are bustling over at DirtyTackle.net), so screw it…

According to Goal.com, both Freddy Adu and Maurice Edu have supported a certain presidential candidate in recent interviews (hint: it’s not the old white guy).

“I’ve been following the presidential race as much as I can,” said U.S. national team midfielder Maurice Edu in a recent interview with the Daily Record in Scotland. “I haven’t taken a postal vote, but would have voted for Obama.”

Lovely. I’m sure Obama will appreciate his nonexistent vote. Freddy, meanwhile, insists he’s not voting for Obama just to help a brotha out (god, that sounds incredibly white coming from me even in text form):

“I want to vote for him and the ideas he is proposing, not simply because he is black,” Adu said before cracking a wide smile and adding, “At the same time, that makes an important difference.”

So there you have it. Obama has the all-powerful -du voting block in his pocket.

(note: if the comment section of this post turns into a political flame war I will ban all of you…even though I don’t have the power to do that.)

So I found myself responding to a Facebook status update from one of Chivas USA’s fantabulous goal scorers, Aleko Esky, after a recent debate. During the responses (of which there were many), your boy, Maurice Edu popped in and write that we all should just vote for him for President. Not once, but twice. Clearly, he is a man with a mission. So America, if you are STILL UNDECIDED, a write-in vote for Mo Edu is where it’s at.

Also, I’m loving Dirty Tackle. Should I be a WAG, a sexy referee or a sexy goalkeeper tomorrow?

Melissa, first of all, you forgot about the Cristiano Ronaldo costume. Secondly, I’ll let you in on a secret: they’re actually all the same costume.

Thirdly, I will most definitely vote for Mo Edu. He is the kind of change we need. Especially since he’s not 35 and is currently living in a foreign country.

Facebook friending MLS players was a bit of a stupid hobby of mine for a while last year until Joe Cannon turned down my friend request. HE IS STILL DEAD TO ME!

Anyways, it’s pretty shocking how accessible and just plain nice a lot of the American professional players are. And thanks for the heads up on the Ronaldo costume. Now all I need are some neon shorts, crutches, and a bottle of self-tanner.
