The hell is a mun2?

July 15th, 2009 | By: Brooks Peck | 23 Comments »

Given the recent hype surrounding US soccer and the general massiveness that always is USA vs. Mexico, you would think that when the two teams meet for a World Cup Qualifier on August 12, major broadcasting companies would be mauling each other over the rights to carry it.

Well, apparently not. As of right now, the match will only be on Telemundo and something called “mun2″ which may or may not be a network devoted to fetishistic animal porn.

As I’m sure you are by now thoroughly enraged by this travesty of broadcasting injustice, be aware! There are steps to be taken! Jason Davis over at Match Fit USA is leading a campaign to get the match on the USA Network and we can all join in and help. If you click the link above, you’ll find his post on the matter, which includes suggestions on who to email/mercilessly harass to bring about the necessary change. Also, if you go here, you’ll find a petition that you can add your name to.

So get to it, you mongrels — I don’t wanna have to watch this match between Animal Whorehouse and Air Bud: MILF Attack.

I thought ESPN had the rights to all U.S. National Team World Cup qualifiers.

It’s in Mexico, so the FMF has the rights. Telemundo holds the rights to Mexico home matches. Telemundo holds both the Spanish and English rights, they used to sell the English rights to SUM or someone but stopped when they started working with Univision. Mun2 is an English network, though an obscure one.

I prefer to watch the game in spanish anyways. I can’t stand Harks.

I’ll be watching on Telemundo, although I did sign the petition. It isn’t right not to carry the biggest soccer rivalry our country has on tv in english.

I know what mun2 is it’s actually a bilingual channel I think, but that’s besides the point. I just didn’t understand the reason why ESPN couldn’t broadcast the match, but thanks for informing me. Yeah we should definitely try to get this game on a better channel. Or at the very least Telemundo should broadcast it in HD. My spanish is not that good so I could deal with not understanding every word if the match is in HD.

hey bobby, i don’t know too much about this stuff so i’m not trying to doubt you, just to understand the situation better. aren’t both countries entitled to match rights? or is the problem that the USSF also agreed to selling the rights for this match to telemundo? bc there have been many matches in the past that are on both espn and telemundo/telefutura so i don’t see why it couldn’t be that way this time too?

Cualtemoc thinks Mexico is better than the US man for man, and essetially is not worried about their chances to win on Aug. 12th.

“Hombre por hombre somos mejores que Estados Unidos..”

Had to read it for myself. Really, Chatachumaoticacho? (That’s for you, Pseudinho…I didn’t really even try.)

That’s insane. If I’m not retarded, I’m understanding that to mean that at each and every position, down to the last guy on the bench, Chatachumaoticacho, thinks Mexico is the better team. Speechless.

It’s CuauhtĂ©moc and Harkes. And neither should be opening their respective mouths.

for my cable, mun2 is in the same package as oxygen, WE, and soapnet. what does that tell you about mun2?

oh and it’s currently playing music videos. good choice USSF!

USSF doesn’t have a choice in this. It’s FMF calling the shots since it’s a Mexico home match. In USA home matches they call the shots. And in friendlies there usually is an agreement between both associations about television contracts.

So Comcast Chicago has Mun2, but they don’t have Setanta? Ok. Whatever.

Setanta will be going under eventually so I don’t think they find a need to add it and since Chicago has a large latin population is probably the reason why they have mun2. DirecTV and Dish Network also have mun2, but you have to have the spanish speaking packages which is ironic because we are looking for a match to be broadcasted in English.

All of you who have Telemundo just press the SAP button and the match will be in English.

First of all, its very disrespectful calling mun2 and telemundo what you have above. I too was complaining about the broadcast but because of the way you talk about these legitimate networks i will not sign the petition and will just watch on mun2.
