Charlie Davies seriously hurt in car accident

By: Brooks Peck | October 13th, 2009 | 7 Comments »

As of this writing, Charlie Davies is currently undergoing an unspecified surgery after being a passenger in a one-car accident (that’s the car pictured above) on the George Washington Parkway in Virginia that tragically resulted in a second passenger losing her life, while the condition of the driver is unknown.

The USSF initially said that Davies’ injuries could be career threatening before retracting that statement for lack of information.

More to come on this, but so far Freddy Adu has said it best:

UPDATE: The Washington Post’s Steven Goff has the details on Davies’ injuries:

USA national team forward Charlie Davies suffered a lacerated bladder, fractures to the tibia and femur in his right leg, facial fractures and a left elbow fracture in the one-car accident that killed a female passenger early Tuesday morning.

He will be hospitalized at least a week and additional operations will be required.

“Injuries of this nature usually require a recovery period of six to 12 months and extensive rehabilitation,” team doctor Dan Kalbac said. “Due to Charlie’s fitness level, his prognosis for recovery and his ability to resume high-level competition is substantially improved.”

Obviously this most likely rules Davies out for the World Cup next summer and who knows how long after that, but at this point it sounds like he’s just lucky to be alive so we should all just be thankful for that.

Good luck with your recovery, Charlie, and get well soon.

Wow, what a game. For all the stick we’ve given him here, Conor Casey came up shockingly huge and deserves a lot of credit for his performance. Landy again left his mark. And holy crap did we get lucky after Stu Holden’s handball.
More to come on this match later, but we’re in the World Cup! What a travesty this ... [read]

Davies is optomistic, Hejduk is back

By: Brooks Peck | October 7th, 2009 | 12 Comments »

Hey, remember when the US MNT finished second at the Confederations Cup? Me too. And so does Charlie Davies, who is still holding onto that moment as reason to believe in this team once the big dance (screw the NCAA tournament, this is bigger) rolls around in the summer:
“I think we showed ... [read]

Something a little different

It has been a slow and depressing past couple of weeks with the United States U20 team falling out of the World Cup so early. To raise spirits, and bring back some of the creative flair this site has shown, I composed a poem for you guys about American soccer. I am ... [read]

Jay DeMerit’s eye is a mess

By: Brooks Peck | September 29th, 2009 | 1 Comment »

Here’s some unwanted news: Jay DeMerit blinded himself with a contact lens. Yep. That’s right. A contact lens.
From Soccernet:
The 29-year-old U.S. defender accidentally cut his eye a couple of weeks ago as he took the lens out at the team hotel, and it has since become infected.
“It was a freak ... [read]

Take that Cameroon

By: Brooks Peck | September 29th, 2009 | 6 Comments »

Well, this one was certainly much better than the last against Germany. The fabulously named Dilly Duka’s goal (0:58) was a thing of (deflected?) beauty.

USA U20s vs. Germany U20s (0 – 3) Post-Game Thoughts

By: Marlon | September 26th, 2009 | 3 Comments »

Well, that wasn’t pretty at all.
Aside from a few bright spots from the forwards and midfielders the USA was completely dominated by Germany today. Even before the penalty was given up the Germans looked most likely to score. Brek Shea’s haircut had a few nice runs down the left, but overall the ... [read]

And now, a Tweet from Freddy Adu…

By: Brooks Peck | September 22nd, 2009 | 9 Comments »

Is Freddy being told the truth or is he already falling into the same trap he did with Benfica and Monaco?
To be perfectly honest, if I were him I would probably be buying a gun right now.
UPDATE: Freddy actually got some playing time, making his debut for Belenenses as a ... [read]
